March 25th, 2010 01:40 AM #24lugging along a wheelchair? then get a station wagon. nissan livina. otherwise, you may wind up having to leave someone behind for the wheelchair to fit. or bring along an elastic rope to keep the rear hood down...
otherwise, you may have to test drive each one of your choices.

Apparently, the cruze is being recalled in Korea concerning the loss of power steering.

*niky: does the 1.8 motor on the focus feel strained against its weight? C! felt the higher output motor on the cruze still struggled, despite it being lighter by some kilos. But I guess nothing would beat an actual drive
* dr. d.: Might drop by nissan and mitsubishi too (but thing is, the person who's going to shell out the cash isn't too fond of nissan due to past experiences with the brand). Gonna have to scout for dealerships later.

The Focus 1.8 doesn't feel strained by the weight... at least not in manual form. The 1.8 MT has punchy performance, since the Duratec/MZR has better low-down torque than the Honda 1.8 (heck, even though it's an automatic, the Focus 2.0 AT sometimes surprises me with its willing surge of power when overtaking). It's breathless at higher rpms compared to the Honda, though... understandable since it's only 122 hp.
1.8 AT takes around 12 seconds to hit 100 km/h. MT should be around ten and a half. from the feel of it. Not spectacular performance, but not terrible. About half-a-second slower than the Cruze 1.8 AT (claimed 11.5), but maybe the Cruze is programmed more for high rpm power than low-down torque, like the Honda is.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

*niky: thanks.
ford claims that the DOE fuel economy testing for the 1.8 style returned 16 kilometers to the liter. so I'm guessing the 13 figure might be realistic after all
just went around dealerships earlier.
a couple of things:
1) the cruze L variant won't be available until the end of april. ganda ng interior-black with some gray fabrics, even on the dashboard. the metal used on the cruze doesn't sound tinny, parang sa focus. but the focus seems to have "heavier" doors. cruze also has a third headrest for the rear seats
2) the mazda2 sedan's trunk space doesn't seem too much smaller from that of the city. and the rear seats fold forward for more cargo space
3) the mazda2 is available in two more colors: red and blue(ata). they're just not in the brochure
4) grand livina doesn't have vents for the rear passengers
5) tanned yung sales reps ng ford libis. random
