Mitsu montero 4x2 AT or Kia Soernto 4x2 Diesel (7-seater)

ahh yes, another comparison thread for you guys to answer.

Anyways, plano namin na bumili ng SUV to replace our old revo, and we were thinking of buying the montero 4x2 GLS until nakita ko sa personal ung 7 seater Kia Sorento (not sure kung ung diesel or ung gas) and I was impressed. suddenly nag dalawang isip ako on which SUV to buy.

Suggestions are welcome, pero enough suggesting toyota Fortuner () since nahawakan ko na and I am not impressed with the ride quality unlike the montero nung tinestdrive ko last month. Also, kung magsusugest, i hope na 7 seater ito and within the 1.4-1.7 M na budget, also wag na ung top-of-the-line since ang habol namin is practicality, not for show-off purposes.

Here are my points:
Montero-
PROS= mitsubishi sya, parts incase na may magyari is readily available. Looks are decieving, machong macho ang dating. 4D51 engine is superb!
CONS= madami na ang naka monty, gas guzzler DAW, maingay DAW ung makina, ugly rear (no offense guys!)

Sorento
PROS= Stunning looks, (mas nagugustuhan kesa monty), New model, flashy exterior, classy interior, rare
CONS= Kia ito, some say they are unpredictable. Parts are scarce since new model palang to, parang maliit compared to the monty,

So guys, help naman!..... pwede kaung magdagdag ng mga points nyo, and I will truly appreciate kung nireview nyo ung OWN car nyo.

How about the new facelifted Santa Fe same engine with the Sorento (CRDi R-engine) but cheaper...

Actually these CUV's look small from the outside because they lack the ladder frame that SUV's have but that is also the reason why its spacious inside... The space that the ladder frame takes is instead given to the passenger in more deeper floor thus a larger legroom... In some SUV's para ka nang nakayuko sa taas ng frame, case in point Ford Everest...

Kung bibili ka na ASAP Montero, kasi wala pang diesel variant ang Sorento(as per the agent in eastwood) sa october pa raw darating yung units. And 5 seater lang daw ang diesel units...totoo ba to?

MAHAL ang Sorento.

Kung practicality hanap mo, hindi talaga ito ang tama since, ang laki ng difference niya compared sa Montero na type mo. Yes, maganda nga siya pero tanong is ... okay lang ba sayo gumastos ka ng around 300K(?) more without you feeling na medyo UNpractical na yung choice mo ? Kung okay lang sayo, better talaga ang sorento.

Para naman sa Montero, tama si SG ... spoiler lang katapat niyang pangit na pwet ng Montero na iyan pag nakabitan, masarap na hampasin este .... tignan.

And yeah, maingay engine niyan. Pero, okay lang yun, naka MONTERO ka naman kung sakali eh. :hysterical:

So ...

Montero for me. Practical siya pero hindi siya naiiwan sa style ng competitors niya like the Fortuner which is, I admit maangas pero, matagtag at suckish ang diesel engine.

I have to agree na maingay ang makina ng MS (based from own experience) haha di naman sya gas guzzler kasi CRDi naman. at pangit nga yung likod spoiler lang ang sagot diyan -Montero Sport GLS 4X4 M/T

kung ako mag Sorento ako. maiba naman. unpredictable, no. Hyundai na rin owner nito so hindi na gaano questionable ang quality and parts availability. ang hindi ko lang gusto sa Sorento ay.. MAHAL. P1,690,000 yung 4X2 2.4L Theta II engine.

Monter Sports 2.5 4x2 owner here.. it is 4D56 engine not 4D51 hehe.. (powerful engine tested from before)
Pros: Superb handling capabilities, comfort riding even at the curb, more legroom and headroom-adjustable 2nd row seat., interior are not that bad though, Macho gwapito looks, availability of spareparts and aesthetics, In-demand (that's why you have to stay in queue to get a unit , already attained a topspeed more than it says * 190kph (see MSCP website) mine 176kph, though i didn't go any faster. (nakakatakot hehe) and good brotherhood at MSCP and still growing bigger.. ano pa ba?.. sila na magdagdag hehe.. (all stock)

cons: Not so ugly Rear but can be corrected with claddings and spoiler and chins sir Starex_Gold is right hehe.., not so noisy engine (maingay ba talaga? hindi naman eh, masasanay ka rin kase diesel and it's Montero Sports! after 1k PMS, you'll see the difference..), No aircon at second row but acceptable, malamig buga ng A/C naman ) Medyo slow response pag may kasabayan sa head to head after the traffic red light.. suggest to switch to sportronic mode.. pero iiwan ang kasabay pag habulan na .. wala na..

So if "practicality" is what you're looking for, make the right choice... and the price is just very right for your pocket.. nakakatuwa po yung sinabi ni sir navigator eh! sa cons na portion lahat ng cons may supporting lines na kasama! haha! Love talaga niya montero obvious naman sa comment niya haha!

I brought a new model KIA Sorento-R from South Korea late last year, 4x 4, 7-seater, E-VGT Crdi engine, 2.2L 190 hp with leather interiors. I think this is the only diesel new Sorento model in the Phils now.

I'm driving this for almost 3 months now and I'm very happy with the handling, low interior noise, very quiet engine (as if gas engine), and runs like a car. My top speed so far is 160kph * NLEX (last Thursday).

Medyo matigas yung accelerator pedal initially, but when you step more on the pedal it zooms like a rocket.

Cons: My avg. fuel consumption now is 8km/l; sound system is not that good except for USB/Ipod/AUx/ ready; low headroom and no electric height adjustment for higher road clearance (bahain pa naman sa Manila) like in Lexus.

If you have the budget and if you can wait for the new diesel Sorento, I'm sure you'll get your money's worth (I'm not working for KIA guys, this is part of the perks of my job).
