We recently went to Baguio using an Urvan Escapade. With regard to engine power, kinaya naman four hours travel time via Kennon Road (although the driver's skill also has to be taken into consideration).

I drove a Hi-Ace Commuter 2.4 DSL ('04 model, yung mahaba di yung ref type ngayon) when we went to Baguio early this year. I was amazed sa power and handling nito. I carried 14 adults and 5 kids plus other stuffs for a week of vacation (medyo madami). IMO, if going for this trip tapos 14 pax ang load, i suggest getting a roofrack para dun lahat ng cargo kasi there'll be no more space kapag napuno na. No problem sa Kennon kasi nga dali i-handle and lakas sa akyatan. I even managed to overtake some vans/suvs in its class. For this variant, wala lang power features like windows, mirrors and locks, and the OEM radio sucks. Mahina na rear a/c pag puno na as in hirap na palamigin pero kaya naman tiisin. Seat configurations are 2 front, 2+1, 2+1, 2+1 and 4, all benchtypes. Total fuel pumped in was 85 li with distance covering almost 1k (Cavite-Pasig-Tarlac-Baguio-La Trinidad-Manaoag-Tarlac-Pasig), an average of 10-11 km/li which to me is tipid na considering the load.

Just a couple of weeks I drove a brand-new Nissan Urvan Escapade puntang Tarlac. I was amazed by the features like in-dash CD player, fog lamps, rear wiper & washer. Pero no power features like locks, mirrors & windows. And the best thing about the Nissan is super cool a/c kahit tanghaling tapat naka-set sa low yung fan super lamig. Seat configs are 2 sa front (1 reclining), rears are 2 reclining +1, 2 reclining +1 and 4 sa last row. I cannot attest the fuel efficiency since bago pa ung unit kaya malakas sya compared sa Hi-Ace.
