AFAIK, WRC created a new class called 'World Rally Class' in 1997 but the cars have yet to abide by the 'Group A standards' and they don't have to 'meet' the Homologation rules. So, that new WRC mandate actually started in the CP9A EVO V chassis and have been following that rule ever since.

That's from the wikipedia article on the Lancer Evo right? Read on until the Evo VII section, and you'll see that's the time when Mitsubishi started building a WRC car. The Evo IV and V were true to the spirit of Group-A, and the customer RS cars were in fact homologation models.

Actually Autocar UK mused you can't go wrong with Evos IV, V and VI.

Evo Vs and VIs are relatively much more common on our streets. Next to VIIs and VIIIs though, they're also still rare animals

EVO 1 at 4, imaginin mo naka civic sir ka tapos may tumapat sayo na lancer kala mo taxi na nakamuffler lang tapos bigla kang papaka inin ng alikabok!!! sa bilis. pero in terms of porma para sakin evo 5/6 talaga hanggang ngayon dream ko pa rin ito.

For me EVO IV not becuase i have this before... pero d2 pumutok yung Lancer specially on the rally car and tommi makinen.. and EVO VIII..
