im pertaining to the 111 corolla.... for me, the 101 is a bit old and many problems are coming out.... in our office, two of my officemates have 111 corolla (all stock) and I am impressed with the ride (quiet suspension)... i don't know about high speeds... though it is cramped at the back seat...
regarding civic, i am afraid of the cost of the suspension repairs and the cost of other parts as well...
Maybe, it will be just a first come first buy on these cars.... especially if the car is well maintained.....

I brought my Civic to Zee for suspension repairs yesterday and will get it today. Let's see if they're magical enough to make a cost-effective service.
As for the 111, it's really cramped at the back, and this is blamed on the thicker front seats. Perhaps the soundproofing was improved which is why the ride is quieter. Get this car by all means if it makes you happy, but go try out a few VTi's first.

January 3rd, 2006 06:52 PM #14up ko lang itong thread...
padagdag na rin sa comparison ang GLS and GLX ng mits....how do they compare with each other? and with GLi of toyota...
dunno if they are apple to apple, but they are currently nearly on the same price level (2000 up).
Which of these cars will give you value for money in the long run?

Lancer MX
+ 124hp Cyclone engine

Corolla GLi AE111
+ resale
+ availability of parts
+ rides like a big car
+ ABS and Dual Airbags
+ interior looks upscale
- cramped backseat
- just adequate power compared to MX/VTi
Civic VTi

+ suspension; non-strut either front or back
+ handling
- brakes; i find it weak

[QUOTE=squala]Which GLi are you pertaining to, the 101 (93-97) or 111 (97-00)? Personally, I prefer the 101 because for some reason, its design looks somewhat newer than the 111. Aside from that, it's more spacious at the back. QUOTE]
mas maganda nga yung looks ng ae101 kesa ae111. me motoring journalist nga na nagsabi na dapat daw nauna lumabas yung ae111 kesa ae101 kase mas luma tingnan

I read somewhere (Wikipedia I think) that the AE101 in Japan didn't sell as well as expected in Japan, most probably because of the value of the Yen. This is perhaps the reason why they designed the 111 around the same floorpan as its predecessor, thus, very identical suspension parts. This particular model, unfortunately, wasn't able to beat the Civic in sales (1.6 models only). In looks alone, the eye-catcher Honda was leagues ahead. So was its VTEC engine.

January 5th, 2006 08:35 AM #20I go for Toyota Corolla 1.6 GLI for safety, Parts availability and workhorse most important (parang kabayong ready anytime).
IIRC they're with AVID. The reported numbers in the TG article are from CAMPI.
