Gas-powered CUV cars lang are being considered or pwede sedan?
If CUV/SUV, maybe a 2009-2010 Toyota Fortuner.
Kung sedan, I'd get a 2010 -11 model Camry.
Malawak ang choices mo with this kind of budget. I'd suggest you get a 2nd hand Tucson CRDi. You get good performance and fuel efficiency too.
2011 Ford Focus TDCi (~900k). If you can shell out a little more, brand new Focus retails at 1.015M.
Or if you need a bigger car, 2007 Toyota Fortuner 3.0V (~950k). Mas OK for me though yung 2009 version kasi facelifted na, kaso lagpas na sa budget mo.
Wala masyadong CRDi Tucson na secondhand, pero nasa 1M pataas pa yung mga GL CRDi.
If you are good, you can bring the price down to 900+k territory. Besides, I see more of these for sale than the SF R-eVGT. Now that's a rare 2nd hand buy. Kung wala talaga, pwede rin 1st gen (locally) SF. Mas mura ito and although its not that fast, you get leather interior, 7 seats, a very comfortable ride, and the ability to smoke 3.0 Fortuners.
IMHO it is not wise to get a low car, lalo na ngayon. Patay na patay kapag bumaha, masakit pa ipadaan sa lubak.
From your picks I'd go with the Subaru.
If you were to expand your choices, I'd consider the Sta Fe e-VGT suggestion above. For sedans, the Focus TDCi is the pick of the litter.
GTi, Santa Fe, Tucson, R-eVGT. Same words I always read every thread.
A seller won't be stupid enough to sell his Santa Fe or even Tucson R-eVGT for less than 1M. Unless the condition is not good. A second hand Tucson R-eVGT is around 1.150M. Would the owner be stupid to bring down the price to 960K? No. Pero yung Theta II pwede. In fact kahit 890K meron na ata eh.
Sa choices mo, Subaru Forester ako. Pero 2.0X lang ata yan, tama?
Suggestion ko naman, Fortuner 3.0V D-4D. Mga '08 siguro kasi ang mahal pa ng '09. Basta yung MMC model kung mas maganda. Kung kapos sa 3.0V, 2.5G. Yung 2.7G ang lakas sa gas.
Kung gusto mo kotse, Focus TDCi.
Medyo malaki budget mo ah, pwede ka kumuha brand new ;)

Oh pwede pa naman pala maistretch ang budget eh, so the slightly above 1M Tucson CRDi kaya rin.SF VGT and not the Fort 3.0 kasi mas matipid at mas kumportable siya sa Fort. I don't like the Fort a lot. Ceiling mounted air vents made headroom very compromised. 2nd row is only somewhat adequate for three, and in the 3rd row, legroom is almost non-existent! Not exactly as roomy as its bulky exterior suggests. Although maangas nga talaga siya tingnan, napakaangas indeed.
The Escape is a nice car. Its nowhere near the top but the engine still gives respectable power, and FC is not bad. Since the new one's coming soon, you'd probably get an excellent deal with it too. Yun nga lang, the current Escape is a really old car, the basic platform dating back to 2003, which makes it older than even the previous generation of some of its competitors. Is that OK with you?
Yeah, try to stay away from the 2.7G VVTi Fortuner. I had a first hand experience on how thirsty it is on fuel. MID reading, 5.8km/L. And usually, MID readings are off by about 1km/L so that brings the actual consumption to about 5km/L.
Though the 2.0X Forester isn't as good as the XT, I started to learn how to appreciate its bland [or rather, simple] looks...
But then, if budget permits then by all means get the 2.5XT
