I can't afford a Ranger. The lowest variant is above P1M. What I really want is a Montero but I am not confident about getting a second hand vehicle especially with all the floodings now.

I noticed na there are more Stradas on the road than the Hilux. I saw 4 going to work and no hilux.

I see lots of Hilux J (double cab pickup) or FB (single cab w/ body) on the road everyday. Toyota sells lots of these. Admittedly, Hilux E is quite infrequent on the road. In fact, I see more Hilux G (esp. in fire engine red).

We have a Strada GLS Sport V A/T. I'd suggest you get the Strada, especially if this is your 1st time to drive a truck (or a vehicle of this length). Main advantages would be the tight turning radius (for a truck, that is) and comfortable ride (much like a coil-sprung vehicle). Rear seat space is surprisingly spacious for a truck, and the seatback is actually comfortable. Complaints I have for this include the turbo lag (though I suppose this would be less pronounced with the manual), cheap monoblock plastic interior, smaller rear bed as compared to others in it's class favoring extended cabin space, the miniscule wheels in the 4x2 variant, lack of grab handles and big cupholders (the ones on the center console are so small! ), rather heavy steering and I seem to be detecting a creaking rear seat. FC is currently at around 6-7km/L city for the 4x4 A/T with 4tkms on the clock. We notice that it seems to be improving somewhat as it racks up more kilometers. My friend with a Montero Sport GLS-V A/T gets as good as 10km/L, and he's nearing 30tkms on the clock.

I'd get the Hilux if I needed bigger bed space. Interior plastics seem to be just as cheap, though the finish looks a bit better. Having VNT theoretically means much diminished turbo lag, but I don't have personal experience to back it up, and I still experience turbo lag with our VGT Strada. I suppose it would be best to check out both in the showroom and test drive if possible. I seem to see more Strada's than Hilux's on the road though. I suppose it's advantages are too important to ignore.

I did not notice the variant but one was gls. I am watching out for an Hilux E or G but I have not seen one on the road or at our office building.

Thanks. This is very helpful. I really don't need much bed space. My main purpose would be to drive a tall vehicle and to haul some stuff for when I go home to the province.

OT: Read about your friend that crossed Roxas blvd with his Montero's hood submerged in flood waters. Wow! He's got skillz and a great vehicle too If only I could affort a Montero

Is the Strada much longer than a Gen 1 Pajero and does it drive almost the same? That's my only comparison kasi in driving a big vehicle.

The strada is longer by about a foot and a half.

But the current strada drives much much better. Turning radius and steering wheel feeling that is ha pati suspension-wise.
