From NewCars.com: Comparison Review Utility Neither the Subaru Forester nor the Hyundai Tucson has a marked advantage when it comes to seating capacity. The Subaru Forester outpulls the Tucson by a sizeable margin. Dimensions Your wallet will hurt more every time you fill up the Subaru than the Hyundai Tucson because of its bigger tank. The Tucson and the Forester compete for the same parking spaces. Convenience The Subaru Forester's fuel tank will need to be replenished a tad more often than the unit in the Hyundai Tucson. Cost The destination charge is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle from its point of origin to the dealer. The Subaru Forester is significantly cheaper to get to the dealership than the Hyundai Tucson. Producing an accurate gas mileage evaluation is so tricky that some think not even the federal government can do it, but it looks as though the Hyundai is the winner with respect to fuel economy. The Forester will tax your gasoline budget substantially more than the Hyundai will. The Subaru Forester is pricier than the Tucson with respect to MSRP. Handling With their similar turning radii, the Subaru Forester and the Hyundai Tucson most definitely handle almost the same into and out of tight spots. Drivetrain The Hyundai Tucson and the Subaru have similar-sized engines, with a slight advantage to the Subaru. Torque is roughly equivalent to acceleration, and in this respect, the Subaru Forester isn't much more powerful than the Hyundai. Comfort Taller drivers will substantially enjoy the extra head room in the Subaru Forester's front cabin compared to the Hyundai Tucson. While the rear of the Subaru offers a bit more head- and leg-room than the Tucson, there honestly isn't much of a difference

Sir shivaker, if I where in your shoes... no doubt subaru foreste xt. It may be stiffer than the tucson, but how can you reign in those 230 ponies with an uber soft suspension. its got that award winning engine, it has to amount to something for it to win. AWD, low center of gravity(a weak spot of most SUV's) plus the ability to run at par with a lot of fast cars. Which SUV can do that?

Starex_Gold, can you kindly elaborate ano ang lamang ng Hyundai na 4WD sa features, and safety? Please kung ano ang alam mong meron na wala ang Hyundai sa Subaru please state it here. Kasi all Ive been hearing is lamang ang Hyundai sa looks and fuel economy lang. I want to hear about the advantage over safety and more specially features.

March 12th, 2010 02:06 AM #24even a Pajero FM is no match sa shabu drivers ng edsa.
in terms of high resale value, that remains to be seen. in our experience, a rare car is a hard to sell car. kase few ang takers. so kinekelangan ka mag-antay ng subaru enthusiast na kakagat sa high resale value ng subaru mo.
but time is money too. kung nabili mo subaru mo ng 1.7M tapos in 5 years, resale value is 1M pero buwan naman bibilangin para mabenta unlike the mainstream vehicles, dun na ako sa mabilis mabenta.
etong crv 11 yrs. ko na, minsan nag-trip lang ako ibenta sa mga ad forums under a fictitious name, you'd be surprised how many inquiries i have.
tucson may not have the highest resale value, but judging from what i have been observing now na nakapila ang gusto kumuha ng brand new unit nito, by the time na-ibebenta to, mainstream vehicle na sya at par with the toyotas and the hondas.

the logic is really simple. if you drive a high performance car like a subaru, you'll have the tendency to drive faster and more aggressively, hence, the need for all those safety features if an unfortunate event happens.
i drive a 11 yr. old car crv with driver and passenger airbags, but no ABS, EBD and all those traction stability controls. so far ok naman, i survived for 11 yrs eh heheh. lagi edsa pa yan.
my other car is a Santa FE with ABS and driver side airbag. occassionally, my wife accuses me na sinadya ko daw 'to na wala sya airbag heheh. the thing is malaki etong Santa FE, nakikipag-agawan pa nga ako sa yellow lane pag traffic eh. but the buses are more careful when I'm driving this as compared to my more compact crv na kasinlaki lang ng subaru at tucson ngaun.
naranasan ko na din magdala ng getz crdi with no airbags, abs, ebd etc sa yellow lane, eto talaga grabe. pati taxi vios ginigitgit ako heheh

saka wag ka masyado matatakutin sa kalsada. those safety features are not body armor. nadadala lang talaga kayo sa marketing ng dealers ngaun. if average speed mo per day is in the 60km/hr max dahil sa city driving, i doubt if you'll need this. now, if you'll go back and forth sa NLEX everyday puwede pa siguro. pero mag-budget ka na din ng 15K sa tollway every month ;)
when I was 19 yrs. old, nakabundol ako ng lasing, dun ko first time natikman ang bangis ng manibela ang sakit pala.Last edited by Gen. Miting; March 12th, 2010 at 02:23 AM.

shivaker another advantage of the forester over the tucson is the unlimited availability of after market parts for the forester. from after market turbos, exhaust, suspension, 6speed tranny swap to a full sti convertion. you can even mod your forester to run and handle just as good as the sti or even better. also a lightly modded forester can give a porsche cayenne turbo a run for it's money.

-- This is totally wrong. Baka po 2.5 NA Forester ang sinasabi dito (they have it in the US but not in Pinas). Per the specs ar motioncars.com, the Tuc is giving up 50+ HP and almost 100 lb-ft of twist.
The XT goes from 0-100 in 7+ secs while the Tuc will take about 10. That's a HUGE difference.
As to the cost, a decent gas Turbo can cost more than 200K ...
I agree the performance is useless as a city car. But I'd rather wait for the CRDI Tuc kung ganun din lang.

March 12th, 2010 05:35 PM #28kung Subaru Forester XT, eto na. eto ang performance machine.
and don't be afraid of the 4A/T compared to Tucson's 6A/T....kasi sa US comparo eh...tinalo nya pa yung Rav 4 V6 w/ 6AT and CX-7 2.3li DISI w/ 6AT in terms of 0-100kph acceleration test as well as fuel economy... turns out Subaru learned something fm. Toyota how to properly tune a torque converter matic....even though it has 2 fewer cogs....
that's how good it is.
also tulad na din na sabi ng iba...test drive for yourself if u can live with the XT's stiffer ride....read fm. reviews as well na yung Tucson which has the 2.4li and AWD also has stiffer legs...a complaint u may not have...but was voiced out by professional reviewers...
also with some minor mods...ur Forester XT can be tuned easily to 280HP and more...giving those high-priced cars like X6 and Cayenne some serious competition....
reliability wise...yes subok na very tough and reliable ang Subaru....Hyundai has improved alot though these last couple of years....but long term reliability remains to be seen....
do let us know what u finally decided on.

Safety:
-5 star rating sa EURONCAP crash test
-DBC (Downhill Brake Control), HAC (Hill Start Assist Control)
- automatic headlamps
- auto dimming rear view mirror
