dami kong naririnig na 'resale value' etc.
tanong ko lang bakit ba mataas ang resale value ng honda civic? dahil ba hindi siya ginagawang taxi? dahil ba mas matibay siya? dahil mas maganda ba ang after sales service? or simply dahil in demand siya sa mga tsikoteers dahil ang dali pormahan at madaling i modify ang IHE system niya, kumbaga pang teenager. Well, di ko alam lahat ng sagot diyan.

Let's go back to the year 1992, when the first localy sold civics came in our shores. I was the 30th in line na nakakuha ng 92 civic hatchback (Php 340,000.00). Pogi nung lumabas yun. Design and aerodynamics was a breakthrough. They were the ones na naunang di pumayag na gawing taxi ang mga auto nila at nakalagay yun sa kontrata. di tulad ng toyota corolla, hyundai, kia pride, nissan sentra, etc. na ginagawang taxi.

Then came year 2000, nagsidatingan ang mga Ford vehicles. Kumuha ako ng Ford Lynx. It was a great vehicle pero it lacked on the speed department. Yung looks niya di kasing sporty pero it's a good family sedan.

Year 2004. It's a different ballgame na. Ford came with the Ford Focus, and then after a year lumabas ang Ford Focus Hatch 2.0. Daming features, same body as the Volvo, and super-Sporty, etc. Sobrang fan ako nito noong magaling pa si Collin McRae. Ilang rallies din ang pinalanun nito.

Same year or so, new cars also started coming into the market, say for example the Mazda 3. The almighty civic's throne in the compact sedan category was questioned by many, then the Honda Civic's sales went down. Being a non-conformist like me, I ventured into the non-mainstream market and scouted for other compact sedans/hatcbacks and checked what they have to offer. I researched and researched on the net to see what others have to say about this and that. After narrowing my choices, me and my wife went to these dealers and compared the actual look and feel of the cars.

So between the Ford Focus and the Honda Civic, I vote for the former. Everybody has a different priority. A single car cannot please the taste and needs of everyone. So ask yourself, what are your priorities? Is it speed? Comfort? Reliability? Fuel-economy? Handling? Both has its pros and cons, just weigh which deprtment you want to focus on (pun unintended).

Again, IMO, it was becuase of the car's history that judged the civic's high resale value and not because it was based on durability or performance alone.

Focus for me, yung 2.0L Hatch ha. I dont want to drive what everyone else is driving, besides the focus by itself is a damn good car... of course you do get the quirks which come with it.

I have a high respect for the Focus. In fact I once sped the NLEX at 170kph with a 2.0 hatch.

To the Focus owners, how is the acceleration? Fuel consumption?

i'd go for civic kung economy plus porma ang priority ko

go for focus ako if performance wise (ganda ng handling!) ang habol ko

pero mejo hilig ko yung 2.0 s-l ng civic (k20a), ganda ng pagka all-stock nya hehe

one thing about the focus' a/t tranny is that it only comes in 4 speeds/gears as opposed to the civic's 5.

and then the base model of the focus only has a 1600 cc engine whereas the civic's entry level trim is equipped w/ an 1800 cc engine. the price difference between the two isn't far off to boot

but both cars are definite lookers, especially their top of the line variants

    Ditto.

But it's also a matter of cultural preferrence.

Those who prefer the euro-chic, straight business but still sporty and elegant look should go Focus.
While those who prefer exciting, daring, futuristically sporty shapes from the east should go Civic.

*Zidane21: Gov!
