If you're thinking of getting a used 6th gen, get one that's still has a good body. The suspension of the 6th gen is quite solid (double wishbone front & back). Get it cheap and then do an H22 (half-cut) transplant. I still have mine (VTi-L 2.3L AT) but the PS system is starting to leak within the steering rack shaft assembly and it is showing some tranny sliding symptoms. I still like its handling and its body feels light, much like newer compacts. Speed may not be as fast as more modern midsize cars but it's still packs a punch compared to most compacts. I use it for coding now.
If you want a fast 2L compact, get a stock Civic FD 2006-2008 K20 MT (as what Niky suggests) or a Focus TDCi 2007-2008 MT. They could be had for around 400-450k. A few weeks ago, I saw an ad in OLX for a used 2006 Mazda6 in Paranaque for 320k. The ad closed in a week or so.
