190E aka W201 for me. Kahit yung 2.3 or 2.6 model. Medyo overkill at exotic na sa akin yung mga 2.3-16. The 2.3 engine made around 136bhp. Adequate power to carry the body.
Keeper car ito. Pwede nang ipamana. Parts are easy to find (surplus, brand new, replacement and OEM). Numerous third-party Mercedes only shops in the Metro.
Best used as a personal car. The back seats are cramped. That's one reason we didn't trade up to a W201 and just kept the W123.

benz owners that i talked to told me na lemon daw ang 190e.
we've had one before at nasira nga agad ang engine block at kung anu ano pang gremlins.
with your choices..id go with the bmw 320i

At the vehicle's age, malamang napagawa na yung block problem ng W201 and/or other gremlins. The block problem did not affect the whole range. Only the early ones. The 2.3 and 2.6 engines are shared with the W124. We've had no problem with the 2.3 engine that could not be resolved at reasonable cost and time.
Btw, the technology and skill has trickled down already. Opening the 2.3/2.6 is also possible via most shadetree third party Mercedes Benz shops.

if i was in your position, id choose the e36 first, w201 second and the astra 3rd.
but... i drive an '86 W201 2.3 m/t myself. it is a good ride and definitely a keeper. parts are easy to find whether new, used or replacements. and price is not that far off from say a honda, except those big parts like the radiator (12k) compressor (35k) rear shocks (4k*) hehe.. back seat is not too bad, my kids fit ok back there ;-) gas consumption is average, i'd say around 7k/l mixed city/nlex driving which is ok for a 2.3 engine. just dont sit too long in traffic and you can actually see the fuel gauge go down
