I believe the SF's improved rep was based on the good reliability ratings from abroad as well as the much-improved reliability of other Hundai vehicles, notably the Starex Gen 3, PLUS its new 5-year warranty. Surely, one wouldn't extend a warranty for a vehicle with systematic problems ala Protest Against Isuzu Trooper or Toyota D4D woes.

^^^ Sir sabihin mo na this Thread is dominated by SF owners who like to build the image of Hyundai. Tsikoters are only partial about 1% lang compared sa overall SUV buyers.

Do you ever wonder why the new Starex is overpriced? Siguro computed na nila kung magkano aabutin after 5 years ang mga possibleng masira na components sa unit kaya they charge it in unit sales. baka ganun din sa Santa Fe kaya overprice...

    Peace!

I agree! Hehehe. Our family nga shifted from the Starex to the Stavic.

Pero as vans go, we had a relatively good experience with our 3 previous starexes. The point is NOT that they're so good that they deserve a premium. The point is that they ARE good enough not to be dismissed off hand. Specially since the SF seems like a good value proposition -- features/price wise.

As for Tsikot, if only for the free exchange of feedback, I'd say its members are somewhat better off than the masses. The problem is that people are resistant to change and are often limited in the opinions they are able to gather unless may traumatic incident.

Test driving helps (and I believe most members are advocates of this). Yung tatay ko lang was STILL wanting to get a Starex despite its new CONS simply because komportable sa tao ang magpatuloy lang sa pamilyar.

If ever, ang masasabi ko lang sa tsikot is that it actually makes buying a new vehicle harder than ever. Kasi kung dati ay happy ka na na madali lang ang desisyon, ngayon you'll be second guessing yourself a LOT!

Well, let set our feeling aside... lets be objective. I am not a car guru and here are my opinions.

I'll separate the list from gas to diesel

    Diesel

Hyundai Santa Fe (CRDI) - practical since advanced yun engine nya

Ford Everest - performance no comment. looks parang luma

Mitsubishi Montero - no comment haven't tried one.

    Gas Option

Subaru Forester XT - yun 2002 model ok sarap i drive yun bago haven't see one.

Suzuki Grand Vitara V6 - no comment, haven't seen one.

*When I say no comment hindi ko pa nasusubukan.

yes testdrive, and how much of those 5,000 plus Fortuner buyers did it with the car? and again, the sales went high because of "madla's perception".
