Bro,- from my limited discussions with Americans,- it is because Mitsubishi was a major war equipment/machine manufacturer during WWII, and with that helped kill many USAFFE soldiers.... So, they'd rather buy a Honda or a Toyota.....

what? this is the first i've heard of this reason.:bwahaha: i pretty much grew up there and never have i once heard that reason why they stay away from mitsu. most of the reason i heard was because of the poor quality of mitsu plus bad after sales service.

Yan din alam ko. Pero sa totoo mahina din talaga kasi naging network nang mitsu sa US kaya ganyan, bagsak sa after sales service.

You're most probably correct bro. since you said you lived there and knows the local car industry (obviously) better, while I only visit the area every so often and get to talk only to a handful of people every time I was there(limited information). But I heard this from at least a couple of individuals.

(Although, you said earlier that you have no idea why.... anyway)

But come to think of it,- Toyota, Honda and Nissan are there,- but why Mitsubishi??? (in spite of its alliance for a while with DaimlerChrysler)....

And they have these cases of hiding defects which further damaged their reputation. Suzuki also had to pull out of the North American Market because of lousy sales network

i said i have no idea why because i've never owned a mitsu in the states, but from driving a friends lancer gt-a it seems that build quality is ok naman so i have no idea why the americans are saying that the build quality is poor. the lancers build quality isn't top notch but it isn't poor either. after sales service is terrible though based on feedbacks from pretty much every american mitsubishi owner.

Same reasons Filipinos shun Nissan cars. Certain models have lousy reliability that damaged the brand (eg:box type Sentra, Vannette) and below par after sales.

I think it is because the LANCER EX in the USA comes with a pathetic 1.5L engine. So it would be understandable...

Base engine of the Lancer in the US is a 2.0L engine. Upsize is the 2.4L shared with the previous Outlander. Anyway, I don't totally agree with the article. It still depends on the market. Here, the Lancer is still one of the best compact buys so far as the base models are concerned.

Here's the explanation of the article why the 2014 Lancer is the worst compact sedan. The article called out the less aggressive styling of the lower variant, which for me is understandable, ergo, lower variants. Next is the interior made of cheap hard plastic but I don't understand how the seats became insufficiently adjustable. I don't understand how the 2.0L base engine is thrashy and how the CVT produces more noise.

I agree with the last sentence especially comparing it to the technology of the Ford Focus. Mitsubishi needs to release the next generation Lancer. Or can this article simply trying to tell the manufacturer that we are waiting for the Evo XI?

Worst Compact Sedan - 2014 Mitsubishi Lancer: With Toyota's recent radical overhaul of its best-selling but thoroughly crummy Corolla, the Mitsubishi Lancer finds itself alone at the bottom. Though its edgy shape and shark-inspired nose look fierce when gussied up on the Evolution X, the volume-selling regular Lancer's small steel wheels, less aggressive styling and single exhaust transform this compact sedan from rally champ to rental chump.

If anything, however, styling is actually the Lancer's best attribute. The cabin is burdened with an uninspiring design, cheap hard plastic, a tilt-only steering wheel and insufficiently adjustable seats. The base engine is thrashy, gutless and less efficient than its competitors, while the optional continuously variable transmission (CVT) saps power and produces noises more typically associated with calf-bearing bovines. The optional engine is more powerful and can be equipped with all-wheel drive, but its fuel economy remains subpar.

The Lancer's biggest problem, though, is a result of its advanced age in a segment that's progressing rapidly in recent years

it probably depends on,... what other choices you have in the market. if you can count the competing models with one hand....

I don't think that this could satisfy them either, if ever. LOL!

Rendering of the next generation Lancer sedan.
