September 13th, 2011 09:50 PM #1hi guys... gusto ko lang kumuha ng tips and pointers on buying a 2nd hand hyundai starex 2000 model.
1. which one is better manual or automatic transmission?
2. ano ang mga dapat tingnan sa engine compartment? underchassis? interior? power train?
3. malalaman ba ang condition ng makina by merely listening to the engine on idle and revving?
4. ano ba ang average fuel consumption on city and long drive?
5. average periodic maintenance cost? (e. oil change)
hoping to get your best opinion. salamat po.

1. Manual transmission, mabagal at sluggish ang automatic
2. Sa engine, check mo yung oil levels, spark plugs, fuel injectors, battery. Under chassis check mo yung suspension, bushings, pipe line, fuel line, at kung ano na may crack. Interior check the seats kung may punit, yung covering kung may stain, plastic parts pag may crack, radio, odometer, and anything na kailangan.
3. Hindi lang sa listening, drive the car and kung may unusual that involves the engine, dun mo malalaman ang problem. Bring a mechanic with you
4. City driving (estimate) - 7.5kms - 10kms. Long Drives - 10kms-12kms (but it depends)
5. No idea, ask mo mga Starex gen 1 owners..
Good luck on your search!

September 14th, 2011 12:23 AM #5AFAIK walang computer box ito, yung Grand Starex TCI ang meron. Not sure though. It'll be best to get a manual if you can live with it. The matic gives poor gas mileage. I knew someone who has a 2000 Starex Club A/T. We went to Baguio together once, (the Starex was fully loaded with 10 people and with baggage on the roof) its got no punch and it managed to drain the whole tank of diesel in just one trip! This van isn't particularly known for any issues so just make sure it isn't laspag and most importantly, check for rust. Test drive it in varied road conditions to hear or any weird sounds from the engine or suspension kalampag and bring a skilled mechanic with you just to make sure.
