best 2nd hand car for 450k budget

any suggestions on a 2nd hand car i should look for with a 450 budget? well stretched to around 470k if ever actually

preferably an automatic, and has reasonable maintenance costs..

car will be mainly used for home to office/office to home travel on weekdays and city driving on weekends...

I'd consider a Vios with the 1.3L engine.

For that price you could get a Mazda 3 2.0R. It's a fast car with loads of features and superior handling that can compete and beat even more modern compact cars today. It looks gorgeous too, at least for me.

Of course, because of its 2-liter displacement, you shouldn't expect too much in terms of fuel efficiency. You'll be looking at about 7 km/l on city driving, probably 8 if you have a really light foot or if the traffic on your route isn't all that heavy.

exactly how do you intend to use it? basic transport? weekend racing? symbolo de estado? beauty contest entry? today's cars can very well fill up your basic needs. it's a matter of how much else you want from it..

it will primarily be used as basic transport - to and from office on weekdays, and city driving on weekends...i guess my primary concern after is maintenance cost. porma siguro is just a bonus

You have quite a lot of choices. Do you want an AUV, CUV or sedan? For an AUV, there's the Crosswind A/T. Sure it's pretty unrefined but it's very tough. Maintenance cost and fuel economy is similar to subcompacts while giving double the seating capacity. Floods and potholes are not a problem too. For a CUV, there are the Ford Escape/Mazda Tribute 2.3L and Nissan X-Trail 200X. For sedans, the FD Civic should be the best pick for this budget.

Priorities:
- AT
- good FC
- Less than 3-4yrs (>2008)
- Looks
- Maintenance
- 3rd hand resale value??? (only planning to use it for 3yrs.)

Btw, I'm also a first time driver/first car. Large guy, around 6 foot tall, so I also need to consider leg/head room in both driver and back seat.

As of now, I currently looking at Honda City instead of Vios as I find City's looks as much better than Vios'.

Other recommendations are welcome.

For good FC, high resale value and low maintenance, usually the Vios is the pick. But it is rather cramped inside. The current gen City is a much better choice. Although the FC is not as good as the previous gen iDSI units, the performance is much improved and so is the look. For a suncompact, the City is also very spacious inside. Considering your long route, the City would also be a better choice since it has more power.

If you are OK with driving a manual, I'd suggest you consider the Accent CRDi. It is even more economical than the Vios and City since it uses cheaper diesel fuel. Performance is much better than both the Vios and the City too. Not to mention that this car enjoys very high resale value.

Hehehe... If I may ask, is this your first car? Driving a manual car through traffic ain't that bad, especially if that car happens to be a diesel and has lots of torque so that it does not easily stall like their gasoline counterparts (M/T Vios is a very fine example of this). So if you are young and have the legs, the manual is feasible, although it is true that a matic car would be much less stressful to the body and the mind. It is up to you if you would prefer the superior gas mileage and performance or comfort and convenience.

As for the current gen City I mean the model launched on 2009. There are already units that are at the low 500+k bracket.

Di ko pa fully na background check si Mazda 3, but it really makes me wonder, why is a 2nd hand Mazda3 cheaper than a Honda City of the same year/km/etc.

After reading at the FC thread of Mazda, mukang alam ko na sagot sa FC question ko.

Another question, Honda 09 1.3 or 1.5? Usually (50% of usage) ako lang mag isa laman or probably may 1 pang passenger. Pero gagamitin din sya with my family(4 lang kami sa family, although nasa heavy side kami kasi malalaki kami).

Probably end of April pa pala ako makabili.

Ayun, alam mo na pala ang sagot sa tanong mo sa Mazda 3 eh. As for the City 1.3 and 1.5, if you are not a hypermiler, you might as well get the 1.5 which though not as thrifty as the 1.3 in most cases (except perhaps for hataw moments and mountain climbing), is thrifty parin naman. Sinabi mo nga bigatin ang karga mo minsan. Then I suppose the 1.5i-VTEC is for you.

Of course, I'd still bring my dad and probably a mechanic with me.

Another singit, For Honda City, 08< or >09? I'm seeing IDSI engine on the 08 and I-VTEC on 09. My initial googling showed i-vtec is a better choice but only a little.

I normally prefer scouting in Ayosdito since the site is much faster than sulit.

For a 2008 and below City, get only the manual variants since the CVT is known to be prone to premature failure.

Since comfort ang habol mo, I suppose the City will do nicely. Interior fit and finish is much better than the Vios and so are space and performance.

I'm having the same dilemma a few months back. My budget was also 450k. I'm planning to use the car/suv/auv to transport me from our home (Santa Rosa, Laguna) to my work (Dasmariñas, Cavite) via Governor's Drive (roughly 55km back and forth). At first, gusto ko ng diesel since puro uphill yung daan and hindi ganun kagandahan yung kalsada- daming lubak at maliliit na bato na tumatalsik. I'm considering an Isuzu Crosswind, or Suzuki Jimny (gas) para talagang pang harabas. kaso parang nakakapagod i-drive at saka redundant na since we have an Isuzu Alterra na as a family vehicle. Binata pa naman ako at saka fresh grad pa lang para mag-maintain ng malaking sasakyan. hehe... Then, punta ako sa sedan. my options were: Civic V, Vios E, 9th gen Altis E, Picanto LX, Suzuki Swift.

Muntik ko nang kunin yung Civic V dahil sa porma pero naisip ko yung gas expenses pati yung maintenance. hehe... Masyadong maliit sa akin yung 1.1 engine ng Picanto and we used to have a 2005 1.6G Altis before- ayoko ng paulit ulit. That's why i ended up with a 2008 2nd gen Vios. very frugal and cheap to maintain. so far ok naman siya. natagalan niya yung sama ng kalsada ng governor's drive. hindi rin ako bitin sa akyatan. nakakatakbo ako ng 80-90km/h paakyat sa Governor's. hindi pa takaw tingin compared sa Civic hehe (minsan naiiwanan ko yung mga spare na cellular phone ko sa lobb pag nasa mall).

to TS: If it is just an econobox, a Vios will suffice. If you want something flashier, Civic FD FTW!
