Hi to to all members. Been reading the forum as a guest and found the discussion very helpful and informative. my first post as a member. I’m planning to buy a medium size car (so out na ang sedan) but the thing is I couldn’t make up my mind on what to buy. Could you guys help.. My situation is a bit complicated so pls bear with me

Here’s the scenario… I have currently vtec 96 car and the budget for another car is 750K.
we couldn’t afford more than 750K since we are still paying a condo unit You know am from dasma cavite and trying very hard to get out of cavite mainly because of the traffic. Sori guys to those from cavite but traffic is not getting any better. But we still have two stay in cavite for the next two years since the condo construction is still ongoing..
thus am looking for a car that will give us a comfort and fuel efficient while cruising the terrible aguinaldo traffic everyday and at the same time give us more space. Btw my wife and I working at manila and have two kids (1 and 3 years old).

    here are my options:

    1. Retain my old car and settle for Zusuki APV or Innova (J)
    2. Retain my old car and buy a second hand CRV
    3. Sell my car and settle for brand new CRV or Innova (G) or Xtrail
    4. Or look for other option

If you are in my shoes what you will decide?? Thanks.

If I were you with the given situation, I'd go for option 4 and here's what am going to do.
Retain my VTEC96. Assuming its only me and my wife goes to work everyday, I'd get City A/T, maluwag na 'yon for both of us as an everyday drive car. And then use the Civic for a weekend getaway. The remaining budget that I have from the 750k, will save it for the condo too.

thanks guy sa replies.. my wife chooses option 3. she wants the new CRV 2.0 a/t whereas i prefer option 1. been test drive APV a/t and so far ok naman. hindi mo aakalain na 1.6 engine lang. torguee kasi siya. the only thing holding my mind is the negative remarks i'de read on the other forum. argument naman ng wife ko pag ne-retain old car it gonna end up as a "pang color coding lang"... which is true...and she doesn't want the look of the APV.. rolling cabinet daw.. more replies/reactions are welcome.... thanks..

strange...women are usually more pragmatic in choosing a car(no offense meant po sir zenon B).

one plus i can say about the APV is that you can probably organize some sort of car pooling with friends. singilin mo na lang sila ng a little less than the usual van/fx rate, at baka makabawi ka ng konti sa gas B)

based on a distant relative's personal experience, medyo malakas sa gas ung CRV 2.0 A/T. lagot ka sa trapik B)

sir, do your wife drives too? if so, then buy another vehicle, crv or something that could carry you guys and stuffs along. since you have kids as mentioned won't hurt to get something like a wagon.

but if you'll retain your car, and nobody use it regularly, better to sell it. lalabas na ang mga sira ng car mo, once you have another car to get your attention. saka hindi na practical ang 2 car/family ngayon, unless the the family members knows how to drive and use the car.

cr-v's okay, pero lakas sa gas ng cr-v a/t 2.0.

a back-and-forth trip from QC/san juan to makati (26.6 km) during the day (traffic-free edsa going to makati, heavy traffic via mandaluyong bridge going back) consumed 5.738 L (gassed up near home on my way back just to see the consumption)... that's 4.64 km/L.

a 6 am run to alabang via EDSA/SLEX, and then a killer return trip (wednesday night, when rallies jammed up all the roads really bad, engine was idling about an hour and a half) via SLEX/C5 plus about 20 km of city driving (93 km total) consumed 12.492 L... that's a piddling 7.44 km/L, considering that a good part of those kilometers were effortless 80-100 kph cruising at 2500 rpm.

try to consider also the Rav4 SV 1.8L M/T. tsikoteer owners report good fuel consumption figures about it.

as the thread starter stated, he isn't considering compact sedans.

Women may be pragmatic, but they can also be swayed by looks. That's why our previous cars were Nissan Sentras... better looking (borloloi) than other cars in the class at the time, and with a lot of kit... and our current one is a Ford Lynx RS... beautiful body kit, restrained and conservatively handsome, and a moonroof (useless but entertaining)... I'm actually surprised that I got the go ahead for the RS...

The CRV 2.0 A/T really isn't that fuel-efficient... but bear in mind its size. I'd rather go for a 2ndhand M/T and keep the Civic. At least the resale value of a secondhand CRV will NOT drop like a stone after just one year of ownership, unlike a brand new car. That way, you have extra cash and you have two secondhand Hondas you can sell off if ever you want to just chuck them and get a new one, when you've decided on a new one that will give you good residuals.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Zenon, you mentioned you want a car that's comfortable and fuel efficient, the CRV 2.0 A/T is comfortable, but certainly not fuel efficient.

the matrix isn't a compact sedan... more of a micro-van
anyway the postings here on tsikot about 20km/L fuel efficiency (highway) have left me drooling.
