Kung rough use, get the Toyota due to cheaper parts and maintenance.

Ah, VTi-S. Top of the line 1.6 yan bro. Honda hasn't sold a 1.3L Civic since at least twenty years ago. The Vti-S is nice, much better than the Altis in the mechanical department. But then the pre-facelift ES doesn't look so good. I'd say this will do for a very nice personal car, but not for harabas purposes.

Or, you can go with something less mainstream. What do you think of a Hyundai Matrix? The 1.6L gas has an A/T variant. Its got much bigger cargo space than a sedan. Gas versions go for just 200+k for mid 2000s models.

Or, if "porma" is all that the sister is looking for, you can go for a Japan surplus FM Pajero instead. Ayan may porma, may hatak, kahit saan kayang kaya! Just bring a skilled Pajero mechanic with you.
