Ako Opel Rekord, drive drive around the village at sementeryo hehe. Tapos ayun, we got a brand new car, ang sarap mag drive ng kotse na ayos yung aircon hehe.

At least yung old car yung na stall ko, or na start na naka gear na, or pinasok sa gear na mababaw pa clutch, or nag clutch driving amoy sunog pagkatapos, or sumabit sa gutter gasgas gulong...

I would suggest the TS to a pre-owned vehicle. Just make sure na di naondoy yung car. Tingin ko 2004 Vios ok na. Just bring your trusted mechanic. For me, the problem of getting a pre owned 2010 and above unit is you have to pay it cash or kung finance naman, mataas ang interest rate.

Good luck sa pag car hunting.

In example would be Vioses and other Toyotas.

Hmmm. Ang gawin mo, right before the hump full-stop ka tapos engage to first gear then diretso ka ng dahan dahan. That way, mas masasanay ka pa sa pagtimpla.

Para you get a hinch kung gaano kalayo ng distance ng kotse mo from the gutter. After that, pagaralan mo na yun diskarte. Defensive driving always, though.

Tapos ihuli mo na yung paatras at pag-park. Kahit sa garahe mo muna ikaw magsimula, try mo magpark paatras. Kailangan diretso ang pagpark mo!

Lastly, HUWAG MAGTIPID NG BUSINA. Every blind intersection, menor ka then beep twice. Kapag may taong naka-talikod, beep twice. ;)

maraming srings attach sa brand new-- if tight ang budget mo. like servicing every 5,000km. and every 10,000km. medyo mabigat sa bulsa. pero kung pre-owned, make sure na alam mo ang pinanggalingan at best to inquire sa mga car dealers like toyota and honda, nissan, or hyundai-- mga customers nila nag-a-upgrade marami nagbebenta ng unit to get a new vehicle.
if beginner, get a brand na di frequent bogdown. jazz is good. pwde din getz. if tight budget, consider din ang fuel efficiency, size of tires. kasi mahal din ang tires if magpalit ka na. if kaya mo din lang kung ako lang id get a suzuki jimny. durable, mataas, kahit baha, lalu na if manila ka. and the resale price is good. and di agad naluluma ang model. a small subcompact suv. at di naman kamahalan.
    wish you all the best----

After maybe 5 years, mag upgrade ka to a matic para di ka na mashado pagod mag drive.

But if you want to pay for the "new car smell" and you can afford to take the 20% depreciation hit, we would understand if brand new bilhin mo.
kaya ako, diretso na sa automatic, until now, tinatamad na akong mag-aral pag-drive ng manual. anyway, I don't have a plan to replace my current ride and if ever that I will buy another car/suv/cuv, I will still buy an AT. Further, I will not drive a car that is not mine so it is not necessary for me to learn driving a car with manual tranny. tsaka ang daming paakyat na roads dito sa amin, at least di ako masyadong kinakabahan nong newbie driver pa lang ako.

    agree, paps.

eto kuwento ko, this was years ago na, sa province namin.
may emergency sa 'min. na-stroke yung kapitbahay namin. nataon na napasyal kami ng tropa ko. eh dinidiskartehan nya yung anak ng na-stroke. nung isusugod na sa ospital yung "biyenan to be" nya, isang lumang owner m/t ang available sa garahe. nung sinabing ipag-drive sila ni "lover boy", namutla ang kumag kasi, a/t lang alam nya. we-he-he!

eh ang naiwan, puro babae, di rin marunong mag-drive. i ended up driving the poor old man to the hospital. yung tropa ko, naiwan na lang.

syempre, minus pogi points sa tropa ko. & di rin sila nagkatuluyan.
moral lesson of the story? dapat marunong ka rin sa m/t......

Sabagay. Pero siguro in case of emergency, walang ibang pwedeng mag-drive at kailangan ko talagang mag-drive ng manual, aba e, lakasan na lang ng loob, I would dare driving a MT car basta with the consent of the owner and with the agreement na wala akong babayaran ano man ang ma-damage sa car. May mga embarrassing experiences ako in practice driving vehicles that is/are not mine, simula sa motorcycle hanggang sa owner type jeeps and cars. Buti na lang meron syang duplicate, kaya hinatid ko sya sa kanila using my car to get his duplicate key.

naku sir mahirap kung no idea kayo how to timpla the clutch kahit pa sabihin niyo lakasan ng loob. :D its not about the damage you should worry, its about how to make the car andar..

Why is it better to own a second hand car if you were a first time driver?
    Hmmm...
It's because you won't be living spoon-fed by the CASA.

It is less likely that you are going to nail yourself in the cross if you scratched or bumped the car to a wall or a gutter. You will also then learn how to fix quirks like cleaning the air filter, changing the tire, checking the radiator, changing oil, know where the fuse will be, etc.

So it's basically a long-term boot camp compared to a 3 day crash course from driving school.

By then, if you can get a brand new car. You'll know the in's and out's. You are now well-versed of why this maintenance has to be done and how it is done. It will also save you a lot of green paper from CASA rip off because you are no longer ignorant about it.

How much exactly is your budget? I'd suggest you get a 2nd hand car. Masakit yan kapag nasira mo ang brand new car due to lack of experience. Magpahusay ka muna ng driving and car first aid skills mo with a 2nd hand (but not too old) car. I suggest you get a 2nd hand diesel AUV. Revo, Crosswind or Adventure pwepwede lahat. These are tough, very low maintenance vehicles. High ride height means you get a good view of the road. Generous ground clearance means big potholes, high humps, steep parking ramps and flashfloods are not a problem. These are big enough that you are not bullied on the road. They are not fast, so you get to more safely explore the limits of the car and learn how to control a car operating at its limits, at dun lalakas ang loob mo. Diesel sila so there is lots of low end torque. Sobrang bihira ka mamamatayan nito except perhaps when you slotted the gearshift to third gear thinking it was first gear. That was something I did a couple of times when I first learned how to drive a manual what with the rather vague gearshift of our Revo. Walang problema ang mga to sa hanging, in fact you don't have to rev the engine before releasing the clutch like with low displacement gasoline engines, the Vios in particular, except in the steepest of inclines. At first I also only knew how to drive A/T's. I only learned when we bought the Revo for harabas purposes a few years ago. I was able to operate it as smoothly as I would an A/T vehicle after just a few months of practice. The clutch wasn't hard to depress, nor was the timpla hard to decipher. Depress, release to half and it moves. At first if you are still new to the vehicle, release the clutch slowly and notice at which part would the vehicle start to move.

Oh my, I felt kaba-kaba reading this thread. I've decided to buy este make utang a brand-new SUV. OK, enough, nagpapanggap lang akong conyo. Hehe.

Anyway, I have no driving background and I'm just about to enroll in a driving course, hopefully tomorrow. I think I feel confident enough especially once I finish the basic course. I remember taking a scuba course 10 years ago and never really felt any fear once I started going down, but maybe because I consider myself a fairly good swimmer.

The bank is procesing my loan application for a P1.3m small SUV. I'm a middle-aged guy and I suddenly realized I had to buy my own vehicle so I could pursue my passions (diving and photography) more easily. I'm also getting tired of dealing with taxi drivers when I commute to work daily.

So my question is: Is it too much of a risk? Have any of you started fresh with a new vehicle?

By the way, this is my first post. Looking forward to everybody's thoughts.
