Toyota Vios 1.3E A/T - Small. New Design. They say it's going to be underpowered because of it's small engine.
Toyota Yaris 1.5 A/T - Bigger displacement. Cheap. Design is quite new. Not a taxi. Small hence easy to park.
Mitsubishi Lancer GLS - Bigger displacement than the two -, 1.6L. Trunk space is large. Engine bay is big. Interior is below average. FC is quite low
Honda City 1.3 A/T - Has a better design than the Vios. Expensive. Trunk space is average. Interior design is above average.
Kia Rio EX - Design is new. Stocks are limited. Interior is okay.

Your options:
Honda Jazz 1.3 S A/T = 782,000
Honda City 1.3 S A/T = 766,000
Toyota Vios 1.3 E A/T = 720,000
Toyota Yaris 1.5 A/T = 766,000
Nissan Sentra 1.3 GX-S AT = 680,000
Mitsubishi Lancer 1.6 GLS CVT = 698,000 (cash)
Hyundai i10 1.2 GLS A/T with airbag = 578,000
Kia Rio 1.4 EX A/T = 745,000
Suzuki Celerio 1.0L A/T = 569,000
Suzuki Swift 1.5 A/T w/ MP3 = 770,000
In my opinion, your best choice within your budget would be the Honda Jazz or City 1.3L.
Toyota Vios is also a good choice but built quality is not as good as you might expect from "Toyota". Ride quality is good. Center mounted gauges can be irritating.
Nissan Sentra 1.3L is good value for money but fuel economy suffers a bit from the weight of the body. But this car offers good comfort either at front or at back. Great if you also plan to convert to Auto-LPG.
Lancer GLS CVT gives good value, good ride quality and performance. Downside is the fuel consumption will be higher than the other choices on the list. CVT tranny is great for long drives that have minimal traffic as it gives excellent fuel mileage.Last edited by ghosthunter; April 14th, 2010 at 07:56 PM.

On the question of resale value after five years:
If you are buying a car based on its resale value after 5 years... then you would be better off not buying a brand new car and instead buy a 2 year old car so you don't loose that much money on the initial depreciation.
Simple as that.
--------------------------------------
On the question of parts availability... generally the big names (like Honda or Toyota) wouldn't have problems with the typical parts that need replacing.
It's not that you are buying a BMW or Volvo where all the parts have to be ordered and you end up waiting for weeks for it to arrive.
--------------------------------------
On the question of fuel consumption... there is enough info on that on the internet if you just search for it.
Just don't believe the fuel economy figures published by the local DOE unless you always drive with a police escort to wave off traffic ahead of you.

Mazda2 1.5 HB = 795,000
Mazda2 1.5 sedan = 725,000
True, the Vios and City are both more expensive but with the Mazda2, you will be stuck with having it serviced at the Mazda casa for the next couple of years or so. And given our experience with Mazda casa, it can be very expensive.

April 15th, 2010 01:38 AM #10If you are willing to wait, I hear Kia Motors would be rolling out the all new 2011 Rio during the second half of the year. Considering the other "all-new" releases preceding it which got favorable reviews (Forte/Koup/Sorento/Optima and the soon to be launched all new Sportage), you can hope it lives up to the expectation.
The Kicks mid-variant over the new Corolla Cross G HEV?
Looking for the best crossover from 800k- 1.3M
