By the way, i think my dogs can fit at the back of a sta fe 2007. Also, I'm open to more suggestions.
What dogs do you have? If they aren't too big and frisky, there shouldn't be a problem. You'd have to protect the leather from the claws or saliva though.

I believe the Innova is the more reliable of the two. I forgot to mention that I've also had to replace engine supports when I got my unit. Apparently engine support replacement is quite typical for Santa Fe's of this age. Drives excellently at this time though. You take car of the car, the car takes care of you. Typical maintenance cost I think is pretty much the same since both are CRDi's of similar displacement. The Santa Fe is slightly longer and wider than the Innova. In terms of performance, Santa Fe wins by a mile [emoji38]

Personally, I don't find the Starex GRX a bad looking car. A well maintained unit will still look at home in a hotel driveway. Especially in black.

Agree that a van like the Starex may seem like overkill for folks who aren't used to it. But the TS seems to be buying this vehicle with weekend out-of-town trips in mind. So I assume that space kinda takes priority here. IMHO during outings, the coolest car is always the one that fits the most [emoji38]

Besides, the Starex GRX is no slouch. It was known to be quite the pocket rocket back in the day. With 145hp and 360Nm, it's up there with what the same-era Santa Fe makes.

*TS: Best to consult with family too as to what they want. And perhaps you can bring the dog crates when you visit a prospective unit.

Kahit na sabihin mong bang for the buck na van ang old starex for most families with more than 5 members because of its size and capabilities, it is also worthy to know that it did only start to exists and eventually become successful because of Hyundai's partnership with Mitsubishi in the 20th century.

The latter gave them the permission to build their own version of the delica, which was the grace van. And then mmc released the successor to the 1st delica called space gear or delica space gear. It featured a front-mount engine with a stubby nose and the jdm version always have plethora of features not found in the local units.

Now, Hyundai used the opportunity again to make their own version but this time, it is packed with unique features not found in their mmc counterpart nor the competition. And being one of the 1st vans here released with a crdi engine, it surely was granted a success. That was something that the space gear never had in the market, because mmc was too conservative to make improved modifications to their own bare van so that's why they stopped selling it.

So yeah, that's how Hyundai started to gain some good reputation here, because the van that they had was originally from Mitsubishi's. It surely did gave them a nice name in the market.

Hi Sir, you are right, it seems that what we need is a van and we've decided to choose starex. Also, I would like to stretch my budget on a grand starex crdi vgt like 2008 or 2009 since I like the look of this model and the power described by the owners and reviews, are these models fine? I have no experience on buying used car, so I would like to ask how much should i allot for repairs and, realistically, will the said model be reliable for say 5 more years?

Are you sure? The Grand Starex is a lot bigger than the GRX in all dimensions. Repair cost for used cars is kinda "swerte swerte". And vans like the Grand Starex are often daily drivers with high mileages. Do bring a mechanic with you to check out a unit. Some units may have little to no repairs needed, while others may cost you 100k and above if you're unlucky.

If you are truly fine with vehicles of these dimensions, might I also suggest the Kia Carnival. It has lower resale than the Starex and is at least just as good, if you do not need variants with the 4th row.

^^I would suggest checking the condition of the air conditioning system of the unit first before buying it. Baka napalitan na ibang parts niyan or what else sa aircon. Check mo lang para sigurado. Notorious kasi yung aircon nila eh. Even hyundai with their tucson daming nag-aangal sa aircon nila.

What would be the best value for money in the 2nd hand market for 400k max budget.

    Priorities would be
    1. Maintenance
    2. Performance
    3. Comfort
    4. Fuel Consumption

    His top picks
    1. Elantra GLS
    2. Civic FD
    3. Mazda 3
    4. Ford Focus
    5. Ford Fiesta
    6. Jazz

Feel free to add other options as he is still open to other cars.

as for fuel consumption, i suggest you go for fiesta, yung 1.0 pag may nakita ka

I just don't understand why it is not encoded in the LTO database it should be the job of the dealership right? Its hassle that you have to bring your car to LTO.

a few years ago, i had to request for it.
it am not sure if it is already automatically done now.
