nakakahilo yung comments hehehe. im sure kpdlr is now more confused hehehehe.
As mbt pointed out sir kpdlr, it would help us (and you eventually) if you could specify you prerequisites.... pamilyado ka ba or single? ...... do you have a lot of dough for fuel (major factor in determining engine size)? etc...
One thing's for sure though. Getting an SUV (especially mid size and up), is a sound decision. With roads deteriorating, and we're getting more 'off-road' than we want, gettting something tough is a must.
kung cute ute talaga ang bibilihin at di mid or full size SUV, ang pipiliin ko ay
a.)Nissan Xtrail, (I find it masculine and the 4x4 system is much more advance compared to other local mini SUV, besides nice bumpers, you cannot put a dent on it, just scratch the paint. Interior si quite nice as well)
b.)Ford Escape or Mazda Tribute (Escape if 4x4, Tribute if 4x2, now if there is a 4x4 na Tribute, yon na lang..)
c.)Rav4 (Nice looks, sporty ride, if only the interior space of this is the same with the others, I will get this on the top of the list.)
d.)CRV (Yeah it is reliable, yeah it has a very nice engine, but the interior is so plain and plasticky, the exterior is not good looking as well, I'd prefer the look of the Gen 1 over the Gen 2 CRV in terms of looks...They say the looks will grow with you but until now I still cannot find it pretty...sorry sa mga may Gen 2 CRV...hindi ko lang talaga gusto hitsura nya, I know, I know looks is subjective, everybody has his/her own preference.)
Now for overall value for money??
My vote goes to CRV, why??
a.) High resale value
b.) Very reliable engine
c.) adequate interior space.
Now if it is my 2nd vehicle only, pang coding ika nga....give me an Xtrail

but, you also said that you want a smooth ride... and the CR-V isn't excatly a smooth ride... so off with it... (the Rav4's ride too is a bit on the harsh side - bordering on firm and matagtag)
========
impulzz, the present Rav4 does not have a car-based platform. it has its own unlike the CR-V which is based on the Civic.
ithink the not so smooth ride you're refering to is that of the 10 seater or 8 seater cr-v.
The CR-V with the new 5 seater and appropriate spring rates has a better ride feel (unlike that of the previous 10 seater or the current 8 seater). Although the Cr-V seat cushions are on the firm side.
Yep just like what impulz mentioned the rav4 is also considered 'car based' since it is stilll has a unibody frame.
kpdlr,
with todays soaring gas prices i'd recommend the rav41.8L. Fuel consumption is just similar to driving a regular sedan. the ride feel is a bit stiff but tolerable. interior space is a bit cramped. Only 3 can sit at the rear and the legroom is also minimal.
If you should get a cr-v the fuel mileages is similar to the Xtrail based fromt he reviews posted here around 5.5-6km/L
styling is a bit bland especially the side profile and the interior.
You might also consider the fact that the CR-V has an upcoming facelift in 2005(6)
If you want one with 4x4 i like the xtrail's system better than the rest of the carbased utes.
