Ford just launched the new Focus and all models come standard with a 1.5L Ecoboost direct-injection turbo engine rated at 180hp * 6000rpm and 240Nm from 1600-5000rpm. Price starts at 1.088M for the base models and 1.278M for the Plus models.

    New Focus
    1.5L Sport+ with EcoBoost 1,278,000
    1.5L Titanium+ with EcoBoost 1,278,000
    1.5L Sport with EcoBoost 1,088,000
    1.5L Titanium with EcoBoost 1,088,000

Now, let's see how Honda will price its new Civic 1.5L turbo VTEC engine locally.

I'd say yes, just for the torque and sheer power. Then maybe upgrade to the OEM 18s.

I would've seriously considered this if it was available back when I was buying a compact. The Focus' biggest flaw, its transmission, has been replaced with a conventional slushbox.

Unfortunately it's still as cramped as before. I find that the Focus is even smaller than the Mazda 3.

The tranny is similar to the one used on the Fusion and Escape, as per articles released worldwide. The dry-type DCT is not meant for engines with torque rating past 200Nm, as it is exclusively used for Ford's smaller engines.

For something like 1300-1400kg, the power and torque is just sweet. It's like putting a Camry's 2.5L engine on the chassis of an Altis but with more torque in lower rpms. I wonder how quick to 100kph this model can go. Honda's new Civic 1.5L turbo VTEC (CVT tranny) was tested by Car and Driver and it got 6.8 seconds from 0-60mph.

Sulit if you ask me. Very good move by Ford and also by using the more releiable and smoother AT tranny.

Pressure yan sa kalaban, better for consumers imho.

Details and specifications are now available at the FordPH site. The base model may not have all the features of the Plus model but I think it is still a better buy compared the previous model. The previous 1.6L model was priced at 998k. So for 90k more, you get a more powerful turbo engine and more features.

As long as the transmission is not the current dry clutch like on the Fiesta & EcoSport eh okay eto.

The Honda Civic's 1.5 turbo engine is available on higher trim levels only so price will be much more.

Yeah so it's better to get it secondhand. Actually for me lahat ng TOTL compacts mas ok bilhin secondhand.

They're 300k more expensive than the mid-range versions, but in 3-5 years nasa 50k nalang price difference niyan in the secondhand market, minsan nga pantay pa.

I could only imagine how much discount Ford will offer on their current stock of 1.6L and 2.0L models.

The new Focus is value for money. Most other petrol cars with that amount of engine output is 100k-500k more expensive. The next cheaper car with such an output is Suzuki Kizashi with its 2.4L NA engine rated at 180PS and retails at 1.3M+. The Kia Optima is 1.4M+ while the rest of the best selling midsize is around 1.6M-1.8M.

With Ford's cars resale value, it will be cheaper in the used market but it will be in a year or two before 2nd hand units become available. I guess it will be worth the wait.

From experience, the Kizashi's 2.4 engine isn't anything to write home about. CVT kills any hint of punch. The needle climbs up fairly briskly, but with no emotion whatsoever. It won't win any stoplight duels with the current crop of 2-liter compacts due to its weight. It does have quite a bit of presence due to its heft, but unfortunately once people see the S badge they just dismiss it as another cheapo car.

The way Ford priced the new Focus might cause a shift in pricing for the current TOTL compacts. The Plus models are even priced about the same as the previous 2.0L TOTL model.

Some of us don't buy a car because of resale value, but because we enjoy the car. Often times cars with superlative characteristics in terms of performance, handling, comfort, design or any combination of those have poor resale value. Kung bibili ka ng brand new, dapat yung gusto mo talaga. Not just because "you're thinking ahead" and thinking of how much money you'll get back come time to dispose of it. Can a 100K or so difference in resale value really quantify the enjoyment you received from buying the model you truly liked?

These are good fully-loaded cars, bur I dont see the practicality in shelling out 1.2M to 1.3M sedans. Id go for T86 or Genesis coupe or Honda CRZ na lang and add more.

Filipinos are about image not specs. Parang nerdy nerdy gadget person who boast sbout his octocore smartphone or something,

Saying it's Euro car doesnt help it either, europeans just love practical mini car bump cars.

I think worth it naman yung focus, small displacement with a huge output = good consumption.Kizashi's CVT is noisy, like what jut703 said you cannot feel the engine pulling power due to its transmission, I watched a video reviewing the Suzuki Kizashi the Host says that the Kizashi is a Japanese Porsche.(I guess he is drunk? Haha) They drove the Kizashi from Tokyo Japan to Los Angles USA.(by land and ferries)
