    Hindi naman talaga sirain ang BMW, problema lang, hindi lang talaga marunong mag maintain karamihan ng owners. Kasi ang style sa BMW, preventive maintenance talaga. Pag ganitong kilometro na, palitan mo na yung part na dapat palitan.

    Unang una, wag kayo sa Casa.


    Nag base ako sa Mike Miller Maintenance Schedule. Like ngayon malapit na mag 100,000 km, palitan ko na water pump at thermostat bago masira.

    Minsan, kaya rin sakit sa ulo kasi laki tumubo ng mga repair shop dito. Lalo na yung Rick ng Sportline, sobrang hina pa ng utak. Euro Auto Parts, Automakers, etc. Iwas kayo diyan.

    Kaya nung natuto na ako, sa RealOEM.com ang resource ko ng parts. Lagay mo lang last 7 digit ny VIN tapos mahahanap mo na part number. Type mo lang sa eBay yung part number tapos lalabas na yung hanap mo.

    Sa eBay ko binibili ang parts, laking tipid. Tapos pag nagmamadali, sa Bimparts. For me halos same lang price ng Bimparts kesa sa eBay. Minsan nga mas mura pa.

    Kaibigan ko may talyer, so pag may problema inaabutan ko na lang yung mekaniko niya.

    Kung ayaw niyo mag order online at walang mekaniko, mas ok sa Advance Autowerke. Reasonable ang price ng parts and maintenance. Kaya lang don't expect good customer service from the owner LJ, kasi masungit at mataray yun, pero matalino at magaling.

    Isa pa, kanya rin yung Auto Parts Depot sa Libis. Ok na sana dun kaso gago yung bantay dun na si Mike. Mahilig mag bait and switch.

    For example bibili sana ako water pump. Sabi ganito presyo, mura at may available. Biglang nung dinaanan ko na, ubos na daw pala tapos doble presyo na yung next. This literally happened within 30 mins.

    Akala ko honest mistake, pero nung umorder ako ulit ng fluids at nakabayad na ako sa kanya. Biglang wala na daw, add ulit pera para dun sa next na mas ok.

    Anyway, kung may tanong kayo, nandito lang ako.

    I admire that you go to great lengths maintaining your BMW. I only had to buy one major car part off eBay when the door actuator mechanism on my then Honda Civic conked out. Saved maybe 5k or whereabouts by buying a used one online and working on it myself. But this is not something that is sustainable, especially if it’s a critical part.

    I think that as far as powertrains are concened, BMWs are generally fine. It’s the small things, mostly electrical, that compound over time. One day it’s the window regulator, another time it’s the A/C, and still another time, some other gremlins would pop up from the electrics. BMW tends to overdo and make things more complex that it ends up having multiple points of failures.

    Anyway, going back to your point, it’s correct that you’ll save a lot, like I have, if you source your own parts and do as much of the work yourself. But the rub lies on the fact that not everyone has the luxury of time nor has the skill to do it themselves. And like you’ve brought up, you can’t just take your BMW anywhere for repair.

    I admit that I've personally never owned a European car. I can say that, when I was a child, our family owned, at least for a time, a late-60's MB 120D, a VW Kombi, and an 80’s VW Beetle, among other Asian vehicles. (We weren’t rich by any long stretch. My dad was into buying and selling cars). But again, I was a child then, all I remember doing was honk the horns, play on the engine hump of the Kombi, and take the air out of the tires (yeah, I was ecstatic when I discovered how tire valves work, until my dad caught me and that's when the fun stopped.)

    Bottom line is, BMWs are ok if you can spare the time and effort to care for it. It will relatively cost you a lot more to maintain. And by ‘cost’, it means money, time, effort, and more often than not, dependency from a skilled mechanic.

    Every Bimmer owner should have this BMW-specific asthma inhaler. Covers not just OBD, but SRS & ABS as well, on '97-current models. Plus, it's updateable.[emoji106]
    With euros, ignorance won't be bliss...but peace of mind can still be had for hobo.[emoji4]

    iCarsoft BMW-specific('97-current). Covers engine, transmission, ABS, SRS diagnostics, sir.

    Baka may recommended tech kayo mga sir? May gtintignan kasi akong 2011 x5 na model at mahirap kunin blindly. At least, kung mukhang may major problem, magkaidea sana ako.

    You can manage, sir. It's not for everyone, expectedly inconvenient...but, if you know where to look & dig, you'll find that euro badge dealerships aren't the best places for knowledge, parts & service. Look to them for warranty...yes. Small enthusiast cliques usually form out of common interest & need. Often, they can be a wealthier support resource.

    Kaya important marunong kahit paano ng DIY. Para yung mga maselan lang ang sa CASA.

    Meron mga on call na mekaniko sa BMW FB groups. Pinakamalayo na daw narating nung mekaniko is Bicol.

    Nag shiship din ata ng parts si Delodour saka BIMparts pagkakaalam ko. Pinapadeliver ko kc minsan sa bahay mga parts pag bumili ako sa kanila.

    If you can find a shop nearby that specializes in euro cars, then good. But most of them are in metro manila.

    Hehe. Kadalasan overpriced din prices ni Mike sa parts(saka di m alam kung orig), kaya sa Delodour/German motors ako bumibili ng parts. BIMparts, palagi wala yung tinatanong ko na parts pag tumawag ako sa kanila.

    Bims and most euro cars use metric torx. You have to invest on these special tools.

    When I was in HS/College/First 3 years working... I did all repairs ng car ko.

    Year 4-6 working - sabi ko sa sarili ko, at least brakes, change-oil, spark plug & oil/air filter + weekly car wash & vacuum, ako

    Year 7 onwards... Wala na. Too tired and busy sa work.

    Minsan nga yung car wash ko sa mall na lang.

    Nakabili ako ng SWAG na Tensioner sa Sportline.

    Tensioner ₱5700
    Install ₱1000

    After 2 months nag squeak yung belt ko. Pag check ng Advance bumigay na daw Tensioner.

    INA yung brand na pinalit ng Advance .

    Tensioner ₱4800
    Install ₱1000

    Mas mura sa kanila ng ₱900.

    Nag pa quote ako sw Bimparts ₱3500 lang yung INA nila, pero 3 weeks pa bago dumating.

    Hindi ko alam bakit bumigay agad yung SWAG na Tensioner. Fake siguro.

    Apex Arc-8's question.
    Planning on getting a set of Apex Arc-8's in bronze finish. I really suck with fitment and everything to do with wheels. I know I want 18" and I want to get a square setup due to xdrive and wheel rotation. I have a 2012 328i E91. If anyone knows/has had experience with these rims, any input is appreciated.

    If you wanna keep the stock specs, go 18x8.5/et35/hub bore 72.6mm & 225/45/18 tires...but this will yield you a slight intentional stretch.
