di naman, so far sakin la pa prob re. electronics. preventive maintenance lng gnagawa ko since the straight six engines are known to have cooling issues. like changing water pump, thermostat, thermostat housing etc. that 3 parts only cost me a little less than 5k. kaya di naman ganun kamahal.

we have a E36 320i and 318is coupes and the fuel consumption is pretty much the same. I am getting around 9kms/ltr for my 320i combined city-motorway driving thats without the airconditioner on. Performance is above average with the 318is having much power...and you can feel the difference. 318is is different from the standard 318. I think it has 15% more power. The interior trims tend to loosen and sag...its unbecoming a BMW. I have posted a phot of my 320i and will do for the 318is soon which is on super low springs....just about 4" above the ground. It looks really good and its a head turner.....Go for a BMW...316i? it doesnt matter.

Not to dampen your enthusiasm ... but it's been almost 3 years since the TS posted the question.

I'm pretty sure he'd made up his mind already.

Thread started June 22, 2005 so 3 years 9 months na. But there are others who are also interested.

2 years ago, I heard a mechanic says that 316i parts are abundant and cheap. Does anyone know where (if true nga)?

There are lots of sellers online that are located in the Philippines. Cheap is relative to the buyer so it depends on your income. Ricky Chua's shop in UP village is now selling a lot of surplus E36 parts. If you have the money though, buy brand new parts.

bm, mukhang mura yang parts na yan ah.. it's in the same range as a jap car. pero bakit ang mahal ng brake pads? it's like 3X that for a jap car, eh bendix din naman yun...

my humble vehicle also has discs front and rear.. and the cost of bendix pads for it is 650 front, 650 rear. :P maybe the discs are of lesser diameter..

kind of odd though, because a (replacement) water pump is 2000. so at least with regards to the cooling system, pareho lang halos ang cost. pero sa brakes, laki ng difference!

just had the brakes on my e46 replaced - discs and pads, all four corners...total cost was about USD 1000!! mas mura ang labor diyan sa pinas, obviously, but hopefully this gives you some ideas.

no, an independent - but their labor rates are probably just as expensive...pag bmw qualified tech daw kasi, sky-high daw talaga ang sweldo (hint to anyone looking for a high-paying career)

OT: Mag-uupdate ang site ng BMW PH. May bago ba sila promo or lalabas na ang new models nila?

For the 5er E39, a set of original brake pads cost P8,000 F & R from SG, about P12,000 from the local dealer.
Parts are a bit expensive locally, but there are ways to get them cheaper elasewhere.

di naman malayo price ng 316i sa 320i, an average difference of 150-200k lang. kaya IMO y not go for the higher kesa naman sa base unit ka.
