Avanza Periodic Maintenance Service (PMS)

One of the big money earners of dealers is the PMS. So dealers will always entice car owners to have a PMS every 5,000 km. However, you will notice that the service to be rendered for the 5,000 km interval as indicated in the car service manual (ex: 5,000, 15,000, 25,000, etc) cover only change oil and tuneup. In other words you can miss the 5,000 km PMS interval provided you use fully synthetic oil. I bought my Avanza from Toyota Manila Bay and upon my 1,000 km PMS the service adviser advised me to skip the 5,000 km PMS since I was using full synthetic. I have an Altis and using full synthetic, I also have my PMS every 10,000 km. There is no need for oil top-ups, unless there is something wrong with the engine that it needs additional oil in between oil changes.

Papayag ang casa na every 10,000 km ang PMS provided you use full synthetic oil. In my case yung service adviser pa ang sumulat na "no oil change" sa 5,000 km box nung warranty/service booklet, this was during my first 1,000 km PMS when a required full synthetic oil. No problem with the tune up at 5,000 km. Just make sure that at least once a month ihataw or paabutin close to redline yung kotse. Mine is a 1.5 G a/t, I drove at 165 kph (with 4 passengers and some cargo) sa SCTEX. Hindi hirap ang makina to accelerate to that speed. I just let off on the pedal....sayang kasi ang gas. Also, don't forget to use injector cleaners every other month for a cleaner system.

pag mineral oil, ever 5K ang palit ng oil.

pag FULL Synthetic, every 10K ang palit pero every 5k ang palit ng oil filter. Pag hindi pa papalitan ang oil, 1 liter pang top up lang pag pinalitan ang oil filter.

Malaki talaga ang kita ng mga casa sa mga PMS. But since ito ang recommendation ng manufacturer, we have to follow it or else lose the warranty.

Kung hindi naman ang babawas ng oil, kahit na some oil will be lost after palitan ang oil filter. puwede na hindi mag top up. Kaso procedure na talaga ang top-up.

Kung puwede, better have it in writing for you to skip the 5K PMS. Mahirap na.

Nung nagpa 1,000 km PMS ako sa Shaw, inadvice din sakin ng SA na pwede na i-skip ang 5K PMS since full synthetic naman pinalagay ko. Hindi rin naman daw basta ma void ang warranty kahit di every 5K ang PMS. Wag lang daw masyado malayo ang laktaw sa next PMS. Gagawin ko to starting sa 15K na kasi sayang din ung free labor sa 5K. Ang kelangan lang daw talaga palitan every 5K ay ung oil filter. kahit sa labas ko na ipagawa to in between oil changes, meron naman daw na bilihan ng genuine toyota parts sa Araneta Ave.

20km check up 1,484
change oil (TGMO SL20W-50) mineral oil = 621.08
change spark plugs=550.24
replace oil filter=399.86
rotate tires
TOTAL DAMAGE 2,688.56 -> less na po dito yung 12% discount for both labor and parts (VIP card holder, cash payment)

PS: old spark plugs and extra oil binalik po sa akin

Pinatanggal ko yung wheel alignment/balancing 2,700 petot din yun - standard daw ito for 20k pero I was able to postpone it until next pms.

Ako, still semi-synthetic (3 liters) but now I added PerTua... Tumahimik ang andar ng makina, at mukhang tumipid pa!

14.5km/liter from San Fernando, Pampanga to San Fernando, La Union.\
13.3km/liter from San Fernando, La Union to Vigan (stop-over) then to Laoag (overnight), then balikan Laoag-Pagudpud-Laoag. Then balik sa Vigan, stopover for lunch, and filled up again at the first Petron after Vigan.

Still waiting for this afternoon so I can measure the FC/FE from Vigan to San Fernando, Pampanga. Mukhang mas matipid pa kesa sa papunta (kasi mostly pababa na).

It still boils down to personal preference and experience. It was recommended to me by a neighbor who observed that his Corolla's engine's first-start shaking diminished after using Per'tua, and that it now runs a lot smoother.

So I decided to try it. No regrets, so far.

2 weeks pa lang po Avanza ko and my odometer reading is nearing 1,000 km na. Mag pa PMS ako pagbalik ko galing sa Bataan this holy week. If that's the case sir, full synthetic oil na ipapalagay ko para ang balik ko ay sa 10,000 km PMS na. Nagpa 5,000 km PMS pa po ba kayo? tia.

Hindi ako nag pa-5,000 km PMS because I used full synthetic oil and I think I mentioned this in a previous post, that the service advisor of Toyota Manila Bay told me that there was no need for 5,000 km PMS if the oil is fully synthetic. Buttom line is whether you change oil every 5,000 or 10,000 km, the best oil for any type of engine or engine component is full synthetic oil. To keep injectors and carbs clean I use STP (gas additive) fuel injection cleaner every other month.

Sorry, wala akong pix but I use STP brand fuel injector cleaner. You can find it in True Value or Ace Hardware. The best time to use it also is when you are about to have a long drive (highway drive).

+1. dapat bumalik pa rin sa casa every 5km for PMS. top-up lang gagawin sa change oil and other required services for the PMS. pag nag-absent ata kahit isa, void na daw yung warranty.
