i got this old schooler from my neighbor's cousin in law who'll be leaving for New Zealand. engine is in excellent condition since the previous owner is a Mitsu mechanic... un nga lang...body is a mess... my question is...

kaso i'm really a noob in detailing especially painting and body repair... maybe you can help me guys choose the most preferrable shop for this kind of ride.. para mapag ipunan na din...

also ...gusto ko rin makakuha ng service manual nito... i know this car is older than me...pero nagbabakasakali lang po.

and... any forums for this kind of ride?

that's my first car (shows my age.) nice car pero have to tell you, prone yan to overheating. i stumbled upon a lancer '79-ish forum a while back pero hindi ko na maalala. search mo na lang.

i was able to push that old lancer '79 past 150kph dati. some things to consider:
    1. ang hirap ng reverse nyan - kelangan i-turok mo pa then shift to lower left side. you have to get the hang of it.
    2. prone to overheating - try to look for a clutch fan. yan ang significant development ng sumunod na model (box-type lancers) dati: yung clutch fan.
    5. naka-timing chain yan. kaya no matter what you do, medyo maingay talaga ang makina.
    6. no power steering. sanayan lang.

yun lang naaalala ko ngayon. pero happy ako diyan sa lancer. brings a lot of happy memories btw, our lancer is still running. its currently in the province and is actually in good running condition.

    1. yun ang astig duun. hehehe. i'm selfish when it comes to cars. gusto ko ako lang ang may kakayahang magdrive ng sasakyan ko as much as possible.
    2. ok...i will try to watch for that.
    3. yes, dahboard is in good condition, lapat na lapat pa.
    4. hmmm...pwede cguro lagyan ito ng cable to improvise.
    5. ayus lang. as long as it's always in good timing.
    6. sanay na rin ako kasi 1st family car is a colt mirage. tas last car ko is a stock honda eg hatchback...both came in with pawis steering.
    7. eto ang mahirap cguro...the minute particles of the car.

i'm not trying to discourage you. just giving you my own experiences with driving my old lancer for quite some time. that is a good car and has served me well. (like i said, ginagamit pa din ito sa probinsiya where it is currently located now.) at nakaaabot na din sa baguio ang dating lancer ko. naalala ko pa nang mag-short ang alarm ng lancer sa baguio (baka dahil sa lamig). diskargado kaagad ang battery.

as for the tray: may tray (o parang shelf) sa ilalim ng glove compartment ang mga lancer na yan. lawanit o parang cardboard ang material. mabilis kasi masira to dahil tumatama nga sa binti ng nakasakay sa front passenger seat.

the philippine version of that lancer used the 1.4 Astron 80 engine as i remember, the L-type before it used the 1.6 saturn engine, neptune engines were used in the Cimaron, lolo ng L300fb.

    from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Mitsubishi_engines

"Mitsubishi engines designed since 1970 use a four-digit naming convention:

    * The first (digit) signifies the number of cylinders; "2" = straight-2, "3" = straight-3, "4" = straight-4, "6" = V6, "8" = V8.
    * The second (letter) formerly referred to the fuel type; "D" = diesel, "G" = gasoline. However, since the 1980s, this has changed. Two engine families were introduced using the letter "A" to denote that all the engines in the family had an alloy cylinder head. Their latest engines, however, do not follow any previous conventions (e.g. 4M4x, 3B2x, etc).
    * The third (digit) previously denoted the engine family. Five of the "4Gxx" straight-4 engine families had distinct names; "4G1" = Orion, "4G3" = Saturn, "4G4" = Neptune, "4G5" = Astron, and "4G6" = Sirius.
    * The fourth (digit) is the specific engine model within the family. It is not a guide to its place within that family, nor is it a guide to the capacity of the engine.

There may also be supplementary letters after the initial four characters. "T" can indicate that the engine is turbocharged (e.g. 4G63T), "B" that this is the second version of the engine (e.g. 4G63B). Where engine codes are used which include the supplemental letters, the first digit denoting the number of cylinders may be omitted, so 4G63T may be seen as G63T.
