Do all "straight color" paints really match in terms of color???

I recently had my hood repainted and i used Nippon's Acrylic "Manhattan Gray". The color of the repainted area doesent match the rest of the body (fenders). I know, UV rays discolor paint, but ang layo talaga.

Is it possible for two cans of the same paint to be different???

same thing happened to our car...nagpa-pintura kme ng hood sa casa pero the color of the hood was redder than the fenders...

nagkamali lang ba yung casa or ganun talaga dahil sa natural tendency of the paint to discolor over time? (btw, 99 civic yung car so hindi masyado matanda)

its possible that the paint is not match sa body
    1. by a virtue of discoloration
    2. by the paint itself

manhattan grey is an old color.

piant is a mixture of pigments (colors) and binders (the paint itself)

pigments are measured by weight so there's a possibility of overshooting a pigment by a gram, one batch is hundreds of liters

so still we have to color match it to be sure.

diba dapat lahat ng cars may 1 can of touch up paint?

as far as the mismatching of car paint, tama ata kayong lahat to say that newly painted parts/panels dont match that of the unrepainted parts because of natural discoloration due to exposure to the elements. kaya ginagawa ng mga auto paint shops ay bubugahan din nila ng konti yung surrounding panels para magmerge yung newly painted parts into each other in order to create an optical illusion na match nga yung colors. well that's what they did to our CRV when we had the front-right fender repaired and repainted.

    cheers! :D

I checked the batch numbers of the two "Manhattan Gray" paints i bought. The pint i bought last october was of a different batch thatthe one i bought last week. I compared both batches and they were TOTALLY different! It seems that the factory cant reproduce the original color.

The orig manhattan gray was nearly black, the new one looks like a very very dark light gray. The metallic grains are also more numerous on the new one and it seems that they are far more coarse.

I had no choice but to have a new batch of paint "timpla"d to match. Good thing competent yung taga halo.

Late na yata yung post ko but I still hope it will be helpful.

I used to work at a paint shop - it is actually very common to have two different batches of paint, mixed using the exact same formula, to have differences - ranging from subtle to drastic. There are many, many reasons because paint mixing is such a precision process:

    slight scale inaccuracy
pigments (especially the micas/metallics) not mixed/shaken enough
    human error
    spraying method
    surface prep methods
    color of the primer

and so on....we always used to test spray, then start toning it to match, then spraying, over and over until we got it looking right from all angles. Blending/feathering out to adjacent panels was always an option but we tried not to if the color was fairly easy to match, because it's a waste of time and material.

Cliffs Notes: always get the paint matched, even if it's factory formula mixed. Bring your tow hook cover or fuel filler door to the paint shop and they should be able to get it perfect for you... ;)
