I'd recommend you to have to have it polished prior.

as for steps 1, 2 or 3, in actuality, there are really no steps to follow.

    its more of:
    cleaning
    polishing
    protecting
    and maintenance in between.

a cleaner wax has wax with mild cleaning abilities for the surface while those scratch and swirl removers are just that. so ayun, walang wax ang latter.

it would be ideal to slap on some cleaner wax every now and then though.

so parang ganito: scratch & swirl remover (or you can go for those multi-combo products to polish as well) then carnauba.

^^^so diretso na yun from one step to another and no need to clean it? I mean after buffing off the cleaner wax diretso na yun carnauba? the 3 steps that you metioned yun cleaning is the car washing part? or is it the cleaner wax? the what is polishing?

sorry ha, medyo madaming tanong? so cleaner wax are non-abrasive purely for cleaning the surface, unlike rubbing compound? and ang scratch remover have mild abrasive naman...

so how would I know kung cleaner wax? is it written in the package? same procedure ba paggamit ng cleaner wax sa carnauba wax? just spread it and wait for it to haze then buff off?

hinde naman dellikado gumamit ng cleaner wax sa mga newbie pa sa detailing diba? kung nagkamali hinde naman nakakadamage ng paint like rubbing compound...

btw, I'll be using the B&D machine pala KP600 yata model, just saw it kasi sa brochure that was send to me by the credit card Co and pwede ko i claim ito...

anong magandang cleaner wax and carnauba?

Cleaner wax: Mix of wax and cleaning properties, no abrasives

Scratch/swirl remover: No protective properties of wax, but with fine abrasives to "cut" and get the old, dull paint out or to "sand down" old paint to make it even, thereby "removing" the scratch

Scratch/swirl removers are generally mild abrasives. Rubbing compound, although they have mild and aggressive types, are generally more aggressive than the scratch/swirl removers.

Cleaner wax is best for newbies at detailing since it blends both cleaning and waxing properties, but it does not give the protection of pure wax, nor the cleanliness of pure paint cleaners. It also does not provide a lot of shine since this is usually done with a polishing/glaze compound, not a cleaner wax, nor a wax or even just a cleaning compound. Cleaner wax can make it shinier than it originally was, but that's about it. Beyond that, you'll need the polishing compound or the glaze. Personally I use Meguiar's #7 for the glaze, paint cleaner of Meguiar's as well as Meguiar's NXT. The first wax I ever bought and used was actually Mother's Cleaner Wax - amoy "Big Boy" bubble gum if you remember those. Very good wax for beginners but then I read and learned more so I just use the cleaner wax for engine cleaning instead.

If I were you get either Mother's or Meguiar's, both very reputable brands. Some will recommend Turtle Wax or even other brands so it's all a matter of preference.

However, if you're a beginner and plan to use a machine, always keep the machine moving to prevent paint burns when you leave the machine running and spinning on one spot. This causes heat build up and eventually, paint burns.

anong dirt ba ang nililinis ng cleaner wax sa paint? so the cleaner wax I just applied it like an ordinary wax then after I've done with it (buff) I should follow it by a carnauba wax? no need to clean the paint in between?

about naman sa sealant, are this in liquid form or parang paste din na wax and do I just apply it like an ordinary wax?... read through the first 50 pages and ano yun IHG?

    did I get this right?

    step 1 cleaner wax
    step 2 scratch/swirl remover
    step 3 carnauba wax

This is what paint cleaner can do to your paint if it's been neglected. As you can see, the fresh "ivory" colored paint reveals itself once it has been cleaned. A whole bottle should be enough for even a midsized car, but mind you I bet you'll love what it does when you finally test it and might even do areas not necessary but good to know they're clean - like in the engine bay, door jambs, door frames, etc.

It's not necessarily "dirt" because dirt refers to loose debris on the surface. It's more of stuff that sticks on the surface usually not removable with just water or a damp cloth.

Your steps are good for me, but I much prefer just paint cleaner as first step rather than cleaner wax. This is so you can use the cleaning properties the most while you're at that step. Then continue preparing the paint with the swirl remover but be sure you know how to use it. There are products that are too aggressive so test it first.

If you haven't done much to the car's paint yet my best advise is to use cleaner wax first, and once you've done the whole car check which spots need swirl remover and use them there sparingly. Once done you can clay bar the whole car as a final prep, dry it well and then proceed with applying coats of wax.

when "safe for all clear coats" is indicated in the package of the scratch remover then it means that it just mildly abrasive? and won't damage the paint?

can I use a machine for the 3 steps? or meron particular na dapat hand lang ang gamitin?

thanks Mbeige, will try the cleaner wax+spot scratch remover + carnauba wax this weekend...anyway, pag nagkamali andyan naman bigberts...

it's relatively neglected, the paint is very dull but I can still see that the clear coat is still "thick"..so I guess cleaner wax can do the trick...

I really wanted to have it professionally done, actually napagawa ko na 2 yrs ago sa bigbert, problem is yun time kasi you need to bring the car there then leave it for half a day probably tapos babalikan then need to bring it home pa, while if I can do it on my own sa house pag ka gising pa lang pwede na umpisahan....

if bigbert can only do home service sana....suggestion bigbert sana pwede na lang kayo home service kahit additional na bayad ok lang para hinde hassle....

    last na ito

    cleaner wax=non abrasive
    scratch remover=mildly abrasive
    rubbing compound=very abrasive

    wait! ano namn yun polisher?

kailangan ba I should also have 3 sets of applicator and buffer? the interchangable head ng machine?

^^^oh well I guess it was not my last question..

anong carnauba wax ang walang naiiwan na powder residue?

as for the machine pads, ano yun para sa wax applicator and what is for the buffing part? foam is for wax application, tama ba? and hinde ko na alam kung ano for removing/buffing?

and same pads ba for the scratch remover and cleaner wax and gagamitin?
I mean if yun scratch remover eh yun foam pad din ang gagamtin ko to put the scratch remover then yun whatever pad ang gagamitin to remove/buff it?

in short what pad is for what?

ano nga palang magandang entry level na orbital? enough for an aspiring detailer and that will probably use it once in a while, yun pwede na rin gamitin sa cleaner/scrtach remover waxes and not just enough for a carnauba wax application

pwede na ba yun binbigay ng credit card ko na B&D KP600?

    dami ah... :D

when "safe for all clear coats" is indicated in the package of the scratch remover then it means that it just mildly abrasive? and won't damage the paint?
Not necessarily, some non-abrasive products from the old days are not clear coat safe as well, based on their chemical composition.

can I use a machine for the 3 steps? or meron particular na dapat hand lang ang gamitin?
Well, a machine is just a faster and non-tiring hand.... There are products such as waxes are best used by hand to avoid wastage and better coverage, but that's not a rule, more of a preference.

anong carnauba wax ang walang naiiwan na powder residue?
Most non-cleaner (pure) waxes don't have residue.... I'd say that even with cleaner waxes, 80% of users are using it wrong hence the excessive residue... Even basic TW green doesn't leave that much residue, but people are just slapping it on like peanut butter and jelly doesn't help.

as for the machine pads, ano yun para sa wax applicator and what is for the buffing part? foam is for wax application, tama ba? and hinde ko na alam kung ano for removing/buffing?
Like I said previously, wax application with machine is quite wasteful as most of the product just gets sucked into the large applicator... But just to answer your query, usually the softest, least abrasive pad. Other than wool and foam, i think you don't have much choices in material type.

and same pads ba for the scratch remover and cleaner wax and gagamitin?
I mean if yun scratch remover eh yun foam pad din ang gagamtin ko to put the scratch remover then yun whatever pad ang gagamitin to remove/buff it?
You could, but best to use different pads for different products.

in short what pad is for what?
    It's on the label itself.

if bigbert can only do home service sana....suggestion bigbert sana pwede na lang kayo home service kahit additional na bayad ok lang para hinde hassle....
OT but there are things best left to do in a properly set-up shop premises.

ano nga palang magandang entry level na orbital? enough for an aspiring detailer and that will probably use it once in a while, yun pwede na rin gamitin sa cleaner/scrtach remover waxes and not just enough for a carnauba wax application

pwede na ba yun binbigay ng credit card ko na B&D KP600?
KP600 is for waxing mostly as it has no torque... Search for orbital buffers in our threads for some alternatives.

My golden rule with machines is always... Unless you know how to properly do it by hand, you still won't get good results by using a machine.
