    Ikaw ba 'to?

    PROFILE OF TSIKOT OPV DESIGNERS/PROTOTYPISTS

    1. You developed a keen interest in cars even as a child. You might have kept a small collection of Matchbox cars or assembled scale models. You even started drawing cars, cars, and more cars. Now that you're grown up, you still can't stop drawing cars, cars, and more cars.

    2. You have a fascination for making things run. You are a tinkerer, and maybe even have a better-than-average understanding of what goes on "under the hood". You have gained a practical scientific knowledge of auto technology through many years of personally maintaining and repairing your car(s).

    3. You grew up in or near an auto repair shop (or better still, a backyard fabrication shop for jeeps and AUVs). You inhaled the smell of oil and ended up licking grime as you first watched and then got your hands dirty helping out.

    4. You have a passion for seeing and making things run. You don't have formal automotive or mechanical training, but because you thought you had accumulated enough knowledge through the years, you decided to design and build your own experimental car(s).

    5. You took some formal training in a field that is somehow related to carmaking: e.g., Mechanical Engineering, Fine Arts / Architecture / Interior Design, Industrial Design, Computer Modelling / CAD-CAM, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing, etc.

    6. Because of your insatiable fascination for automotive specifications, you have practically memorized the specs of over fifty vehicles - vintage or modern - and can perhaps even describe their histories.

    7. You own a stable auto repair or maintenance shop or some fabrication facility that can churn out parts for cars, even improvised replacement parts.

    8. You have many innovative ideas that you would have wanted to become real. You might even have actually tried to build some gadget that is related to carmaking. But you are a closet inventor, afraid someone might cast aspersions on your ideas.

    8. You have an insatiable urge to see a new car that is designed by Filipinos, made by Filipinos for Filipinos (and perhaps even for other countries, pero bonus na yun kung sakali).

    9. You are car news hog, always up-to-date with local and global car industry news, and have the latest industry stats at your fingertips, which you can rattle out almost instantly.

    10. You know how to distinguish between fact and opinion, and are able to use the right words to express even very strong positions without detracting or insulting fellow Tsikoteers. You are a team player, not a prima donna.

If you fit No.10, plus one or several of the descriptions above, STOP LURKING AND START POSTING IN THIS FORUM! GET INVOLVED ALREADY. We're waiting for YOU. You are welcome to the stable. So what if viewers mock you as being an amateur wannabee? "Amateur" in French means "a lover of ..." In Spanish, "amador". In Greek, "philo" Don't worry. Everybody who's become 'somebody' in the world started out as a wannabee.

    And then there's Number 11 ...
    11. You have ended up working for a major carmaker, either by accident or because of your enthusiasm for cars and carmaking.

If you fall under No.11 (even if you qualify for Nos. 1-10), you do not have amateur status, and a conflict of interest advises against your direct involvement in design development in this Forum. Because we don't want you to lose your job, we advise you therefore to limit yourself to short constructive comments. You are still welcome to lurk.

very impressive...I really hope to meet some of you, if not all, one day.

I do fall under all of 1-10 at some point in my life...although I may not qualify for #11, I probably would for #12 or more likely #13 :D

Best of luck, and I sincerely hope to be working with some of you one day

Buti na lang you don't fit in #11, kasi kung "onse" ka, disqualified ka.
Just jump in when you're ready, trukr.
Hwag ka sanang mahihiya. Maraming namang 'langya dito, e.

Sure, jundogg. Mamili ka kung saan thread mo gustong magshare ng insights and knowledge mo. OR kung saan mo gustong magpost ng questions mo. Basta about design ng Original Pilipino Vehicle (OPV). Kung kaya mong mag-sketch, i-post mo rin yung drawings mo. Just don't forget to sign your drawings para malaman natin kung kaninong intellectual property yun. Game!

OK VtEC. Start sending in your posts. Texts or sketches, whatever.
Let me just say that this forum is not just for talking.
Forums have a tendency to get bogged down with small talk.
At some point, the talk has to stop, and then
    the DOING commences.

    You're in, safeorigin.

Guys, small talk is OK din naman, basta every now and then you send in something relevant and substantial for the various threads in this Design and Research Forum.

    Check out http://www.heatherwick.com/

Thomas Heatherwick is presently one of the hottest industrial designers. He is the guy who designed the Rolling Bridge in London, the Longchamp store with the innovative stairs in NYC, and the Blieigiessen scultpure in the Wellcome Trust bldg in Londoni, among others. Try to view the BBC documentary on the way he approaches his designs. Totally out of the box thinking.

While I doubt if he has actually designed an automobile, it won't hurt for aspiring designers, automotive and otherwise, to study his methodology.

You're welcome... to make design-relevant contributions, hitomi.
It's easy enough to make the jump from one design specialization to automotives, if you learn the language and the process. It's analogous to architecture. A car is just a little house with wheels.

Hey there, I've been sketching cars for years, on and off. Earlier this year, I drew quite a handful of new ones. Tried my hand to render the sketches using photoshop and it turned out quite nicely although I still consider them to be quite behind the caliber to the ones at cardesignnews.com. But I still vow to keep on improving and hoping to pursue a course in Industrial Design, the closest thing you can get to Automotive Design in this country. But if luck have its way and dumating yung money, I might pursue and Auto design course abroad.

Here's a sample work, quite ambitious I should say, a Ferrari SUV .

I named it ROVIGO, adjustable ang ride height niyan like Cayenne :D The original drawing was a pencil sketch on paper, scanned and then did the rendering on photoshop. Referred to some pointers online-some links I found at cardesignnews.com. Yung ibang rendering styles, I based it on some drawings from cardesignnews portfolio, dami ko gusto styles dun pero it requires you to have other rendering softwares.
