I'm not familiar with VW based jeeps. I'd like to know what it looks like. Does anybody have a photo of one?

It looks like a small HumVee... HUMVEE is a hummer like VW Based Jeep - Buggy. you can google it. Mabagsik din ang dating nito.

Anyway, the VW based Jeep na G.I. finish displayed last VW day in 2003 I guess - is probably made in Pampanga... If you know Andy Ferreria - dean of Management in AIM - (also a VW enthusiast) he is familiar with it since he is most of the time one of the Judges. He is also by the way a member of the FILCAR Foundation... ( a foundation dedicated to support the development of the Filipino Car - founded by the late Raul Manglapuz, Francisco Motors is also a member of it.)

If you know Dr. Cesar Dela Merced - the perenial president of the Philippine VW Club - he is familiar with that also.

Another guy very knowledgeable with Philippine Automotive History is Charlie Alvarez - he is the perenial President of the Philippine Vintage Car Association... and Manila Sports Club... He fabricates his own replicas as well and has a vast collection of Vintage and Classic Cars, part of De Castro's collection is also possessed by this guy... He lives in Wack wack - you can check out some of his collections, probably be able to see some of his projects... (some some old Bugatti EB, a Renault Alpina and some VW convertibles.) This guy has a database of almost all special interest cars that has been imported in the Philippines since the 1940's up to the present... I think he has some connection with the LTO... anyway, a visit in his house is highly recommended if you want to enrich your cultural education about Philippine Automotive History. It's like going in memory lane being in his residence. Parang Museum... I sold him a 1932 Packard and He just made minor restoration to it... it is now one of his favorite - kasi laging ginagamit sa mga shooting... also with weddings - fully book for 2 years... this is the car used in Julious Babao's Wedding... minsan - nagsisisi ako bakit ko binenta. - Okey lang - kundi ko ko naman binenta - di ko makukuha yung Dodge Viper Body Shell na kinukursunada ko. - If you can find anyone of the above mentioned guys - they can lead you to that G.I. finish HumVee type Jeep.

If that is the same one we are talking about.

If there is already an available mould for fiberglass... you will be spending roughly about P60,000 for one body... uncluding glass and rubbers and paint.

If you have it custom built with GI sheets... probably P35T with a qualified fabrication specialist shop.

Body pa lang yun... the under carriage is from a VW donor car. One rusty VW bug or Brazilia will probably cost you about P10 to P15T.

Have the body removed... rebuild the floor pan, overhaul te engine... put nice mags... recondition the brakes.... install baby webers or an EFi kit... hmmm.... palagay ko makakabuo ka ng Hummbug with a rough P200T budget... provided you have the space to build this project car.

i miss the lowered, short wheelbase, toyota/mitsubishi powered OTJ's that our neighbor used to build in QC back in the day.. i wonder if they're still building those li'l monsters.. dual carbs, headers and straight or no exhaust at all FTW! :drool:

but yes a CRDi would be awesome for OTJ's now if only they make it less of a pollutant unlike the jeepneys/buses/fx's

I don't think there's anyone mass-producing Hummbug/Wombat body kits locally.
The local midsized humvees are too tall to have an attractive aspect ratio, so they end up looking like "unanô" H1s. Not very spacious either, since the floor is practically above the chassis. Maybe that's why they haven't clicked and buyers still tend to choose Suvics over even Humvee replicas.

I haven't seen any here in British Isles. It's a nice looking jeep. Hope we can design our own new gen OTJ.

Base on the current available products - yung wombat na nga ang nearest upgrade for the OTJs na aesthetically appealing.

Ang napasin ko kasing utility ng OTJ is can also serve as a "pick-up" pagnaghahakot ng gulay sa market or naglilipat ng refrigerator. The wombat design can allow that.

My recommendation is that the Tsikot's OTJ will need to be a normally 2 seater that can be mounted with a rear extra seat or serve as a "pick-up bed". As such the front two seats can have a "solid" bubong and the rear can be canvas type mounted - either slant or the regular owner na squarish.

I would also recommend that front mounted engine eto (not just VW). - possible options for a front wheel drive configuration would probably be good kasi marami ng donor vehicles (front cuts) that can be used for this. Since bumalik na ring ang Front Engine Rear driven pede na ring oldschool design. Small displacement diesel are good engines pero limited ang mga ganyan ngayon. Puro 2.5 from L200/L300 ang abundant na diesel engine.

As an alterntive OTJ design concept

Nung dati I was into thinking that a "car-like" vehicle design would be a good OTJ replacement... and my candidate for the specs and design to follow ay ang 1981 Toyota Starlet.

Why the Toyota Starlet as basis?
- size wise para ring OTJ
- it can seat at least 6 (see the siksik commercial na merun 6 adults on a starlet)
- if you fold the rear seat, the luggage compartment becomes huge...parang OTJ
- if you redesign the rear with removable door (hatch back type) and yung lower portion is foldable (parang pick-up, the old civic hatch o CRV parang ganito rin) pede ka ng malagay or madala ng ref or a 4x8 plywood (although if you have roof-rack pedeng sa bubong na yung plywood).
- the rear suspension of the starlet is spring and shock - not leafsprings, so mas maganda rin ang ride comfort nito.
- pag-umuulan, hindi ka rin prone mabasa kasi it behaves like a car unlike the OTJ.
