January 23rd, 2003 01:47 PM #1guys,
pwede ba distilled water na lang ilagay sa radiator without the coolant? may nakapagsabi kse sa kin dati na nakakabara ng radiator ang coolant pagtagal? is this true? or pwede konti lang coolant lagay ko (30%)? advice sa kin eh distilled water plus a good anti-rust solution is ok na even without using coolant.
opinion nyo?
thanks.

normal recommended mixture ng coolant and water is 50/50. you need enough mixture of coolant to protect your radiator against rust at the same time provide more heat resistance sa radiator mo.

January 23rd, 2003 02:46 PM #3i don't put coolant(anti-rust) on the radiator of my corolla for 4 years now tubig lang at hindi rin distilled. mas maganda talaga kung distilled water. if u like to put anti-rust just make sure that you mix a little only not too much.

ako 70% distilled 30% coolant... dapat 50/50 kaya lang barat ako eh... hehe... keeps engine running very smoothly kahit super traffic...

Kung bihira paandarin ang makina mas makakaganda pa ang pure water lang.
Now the table turns if you use it everyday. Nakakatulong naman ang radiators coolants (why would they still make them if not, di ba?). Lalo na kung nasa traffic ka, it would really help your engine cool down while idling. Just experiment like the guys did, 50/50 60/40 or 70/30. :D

just follow their advice tapos magtabi ka ng isang bote ng distilled water sa trunk para may extra ka pag kailangan ng kotse mo

Plain water or distilled water contributes to rust formation in the radiator. This together with precipitates (kung mineral water ang gamit) all contributes to solids being formed and circulates in your radiator that may clog it. Coolant on the contrary does not clog your radiator. It helps raise the boiling point of the water does preventing it from vaporizing and escaping through the reservoir drain or cap which decreases the cooling efficiency of your engine. It also prevents rust that may form and clog your cooling system. Thus for a longer cooling system life it is advisable to mix coolant with water (usually 1:1 ratio).

January 23rd, 2003 06:54 PM #8You should use an anti-corrosive agent with the water in your radiator.
Most modern engine's use an aluminium cylinder head, on some engine's also an aluminium block.
Water is corrosive to aluminium.
Coolant in the right amount will not clog your cooling system..
Too much coolant will be bad for your engine.
Coolant doesn't actually improve the heat transfer capability of your engine.
What it does is allow the water to have a higher boiling point before it evaporates.
Only by remaining liquid will water/coolant/fluid in your radiator be an efficient heat transfer agent.
