    Hi Guru's,

there are four ways to check for leaks in the airconditioner loop. one, with soupand water solution sprayed to the suspected area. two, flourescent dye penetrant injected into the refrigerant area and use a black light (ultra violet light) to expose the leak. three, use an electronic leak detector (the most preferred method). and four, without refrigerant in the system (usually done after parts replacement), vacuum leak test by evacuating the system at least twenty minutes at around 29.5 inches of mercury, if the system holds vacuum, it usually means that the system is vacuum tight but not necessarily pressure tight. for the evaporator area, the soap and water method does not work, you usually can tell if the evaporator or its o-rings are leaking by the smell of the refrigerant that has mixed with moisture (smells like horse crap) at the registers or vent
