August 25th, 2020 03:19 PM #21long overdue update
1) disassembled the carb; found out the diaphragm in the economizer valve is already leaky, and it is vacuum-operated, it caused too much fuel to flood the engine hence the fouled spark plugs. no carb repair kits available for the carb model, so i cut a piece from a nitrile glove to use as diaphragm. works like a charm so far. idles well and steady, no more fouled plugs. didnt bother reviving the auxillary accelerator pump since its diaphragm is also leaking and the thermostatic vacuum switching valve it connects to was also inoperable. used a piece of belamoid gasket to seal it.
2) there was occasional misfire and jerking on hard accelleration or when under load; replacing the spark plug wires tamed it a little, but it is still there. turns out the distributor contacts already had grooves. malalim na. i pulled the rotor out a bit para di sya tumapat dun sa malalim na part ng contacts. accelerates better, but a new distributor cap should be purchased soon.
3) installed a capillary thermoswitch for the radiator fan since the original thermoswitch is again unavailable. battery is stressed no more. purchased a new battery na din for insurance.
4) i also adjusted the valve clearance based on specs. way quieter now.
fuel consumption improved to 12-14kms/liter more or less, urban driving. mas bababa pa siguro kung walang stop&go traffic. pretty happy with the results. learned a lot in the process.

August 26th, 2020 09:49 AM #23my kind of car owner!
yung maitim ang siko!
...reminds me of... myself!
heh heh.
some time back,
may mga taong nag-post, asking where they could find a carburator expert.
this got me wondering,
because in our time,
every other car fan could un-build and re-build his carburator.
of course, back then, carburator rebuild kits were easily available.Last edited by dr. d; August 26th, 2020 at 09:58 AM.
Probably looks like a Coke sakto. Yes, where did you buy it?
