    HELP naman po mga idol!

Our service van's,a local 1999 model Toyota Hi-ace GL(gasoline engine), orig radiator(plastic) needs to be repaired or replaced?! When we ask a radiator shop(in cainta rizal), sabi pwede daw i-repair,papalitan nila yung ibabaw ng tanso na.

Now, my question mga Sir is, mas-Ok ba na ipa-repair ko nalang yung radiator namin at magiging tanso na yung top cover, or mas-Ok kung bibili na lang kami ng brandnew replacement radiator(like the evercool brand ba yun?), or Orig surplus nalang? if mag buy nalang kami, where po ok at mura bumili?

We need kc our van this week. You can also txt me at #09274621332. Thanks in advance po mga sir.

my friend's LC90 Prado gas (3RZ-FE 2.7) radiator was overhauled. we are wondering why there is something leaking at the bottom, and at first I dismissed it as normal. he was paranoid so I offered to check it for him, and came a pinhole leak at the radiator. the aluminum top (twas a replacement also, IMO orig was a plastic one) was replaced by a brass top. i also recommended to change the hoses, new rad cap, new coolant, and re-oiling of the clutch fan. total damage is 3k+. we had a recent trip to Sariaya, Quezon and the Prado didn't overheated compared before (the coolant boiled and almost no water was left at the rad)

Just get a replacement one or have your current rad repaired instead of buying surplus, surplus is always a hit-and-miss scenario, plus you don't know the history of it, and there might be some clogging already happened inside which requires opening the rad, so repairing your old one would be a cheaper way.

wala po akong shop, I just love to get dirty and greasy inside the engine bay The Prado was done on a shop at Evangelista, forgot it na basta it's a couple blocks away after the bridge if you're coming from EDSA.

i checked it by simply pulling the accelerator cable so that the rad will heat up and the leak became visible

    Update lang po:

We had the water pump replaced at nung tatanggalin na yung hose connected sa radiator,Naputol/nabiyak na yung part ng radiator sa taas kung saan nakakabit yung hose. Yung parang tubo. Marupok na kasi. So hindi na namin magagamit yung auto.Choice is ipa-home service. meron na kami mga nakausap for the conversion.

Hindi lang kami makapagdecide kung ipa-convert namin to brass top yung radiator or buy ng brandnew replacement. nsa 2-2.8k yung conversion pag-tanso yung radiator mo(yung mismong gitna/loob ng radiator), at 2.5-3.5k naman kung aluminum yung radiator mo like nung samin. Mas mahal pag-aluminum yung radiator mo. With 1 year warranty pa yung 2 shop na nakausap ko.

Peeps, this is as simple as it gets.

It is NOT recommended, and I say so vehemently, that you replace the plastic tanks on your aluminum radiators with a brass tank.

    For several reasons:

    1) Aluminum does not play very well with other alloys. Given basic chemistry, aluminum will become the sacrificial anode when mixed with alloys that are more noble than it. Simply put it will corrode and you will cause more problems down the line in your cooling loop.

    2) Your vehicle is overheating because your cooling loop has become less efficient, i.e. dirt on the fins outside, and corrosion/scaling on the inside. Flush it before you install the radiator

For re-coring, dude, to my knowledge, panay surplus cores ang gamit riyan. Talo ka for the trouble and expense.

For radiator "overhauling" the usual operations I see around here are just rubbish. They torch open your radiator, wash it, then "poke" through the tubes to descale it. This presents the clear and present danger of damaging the tubes and causing leaks.

Walang pinagkaiba ang matinong aluminum vs a decent copper radiator for the application. Basta spec silang dalawa decide according to your budget, and confidence in the build quality/warranty of the manufacturer.

Value of quality over cheap is my personal rule of thumb.
