I guess the aircon deserves a separate thread, so here goes...

Do you turn off the aircon first when switching off the engine? Because when you don't, the next time you switch on the engine, the aircon turns on automatically. I don't know if it has bad effects. Personaly i do turn off the aircon before switching off the engine. A couple of times though, i may have forgot to kill the aircon... buti na lang walang masamang effect pa. Curious lang ako what bad effects this causes when done regularly.

I personally turn it off before turning off engine. Yun turo sa ken before when I was just learning to drive. They say hirap engine if you don't. Sa B12 ko ngaun, namamatay engine minsan if I forget. Sa N16 ko, okay lang.. kaso I still try to heed the advice to turn it off first. Let's wait if the gurus can provide explanation...

    Sir question...

why do you need to wait 2-3 minutes before turning the AC ON after the engine is ON? pag malamig ba engine kaya ginagawa ito? or same din kahit mainit na engine?

ako kasi pag turn ON ng engine ah susunod ko na din ang AC... is there a bad effect on this?

    on topic:

i do turn the AC OFF before turning the engine OFF as well... turo lang din sa akin ng mga nag turo sa akin mag drive...

Agree here. I do this, too, especially in the morning ..... A matter of habit. Although, kung talagang mainit, I have no choice but to turn on the AC after a few seconds.

Also, turning-off the compressor a couple of minutes, leaving the fan on, just before reaching your destination, IMO, is a good practice, as the engine and battery will have a reprieve before shutdown..... Although, I do this only for one of our vehicles....

same here. 5 mins warming of the engine where it is park and i just turn on the AC after makalabas ako ng village thats about 5 mins from house to the subd. gate all in all 10 mins before i turn the dial to #1, but how long is the interval before you turn the blower to no. 2, 3, 4?
my routine po kc, i switch it to the other for approx. 5-6 mins interval, just like aircon sa bahay.

One thing I read a long time ago is that the water in the evaporator case will have time to drain out completely and not remain in the evaporator case too long, prolonging evaporator life. I don't know if that's true, but I've made it a habit to turn mine off before shutting down, and vice versa. Here where it's colder now I just use outside air with the blower fan instead, nakakatipid rin. If it gets humid then I turn the compressor on, but often times it's not as humid to necessitate the use of A/C in the winter.

I think I've also read this article and it came from Honda Philippines on how to properly take care of your aircon. Nung nabasa ko to, sinunod ko siya so fan muna ako before ako lumabas sa gate ng village tapos once palabas na ako, aircon na (kasi polluted na rin). Bago pa nga ako mag-fan, nakabukas muna lahat ng windows ko to let fresh air in. May nabasa naman kasi ako that the plastics in our car emit some toxic fume when it's parked for an extended period of time (5-8 hrs) on a relatively warmer environment (say maiinit na underground parking). I guess nasanay nalang ako na ganun yung practice.

yes para di hirap ang current flow for the starter. compressor off too few hundred kms from destination is also my habit. leaving the fans going for minutes enables it to blow off the remaining cold air thus preventing amoy pawis scent next time

not to mention the extra volt that the battery recovers during this procedure. very very useful for the next start up.

Pag malapit na sa destination, turn of the compressor. abot pa naman ang lamig.

Pag dating sa office, pag paatras na para mag park, turn off the compressor. Nakaka 1 or 2 na abante-atras pa ako. Sikip ng parking kasi.

Pag pauwi, turn off the compressor mga 2 kms before our house, pag medyo uminit na, turn off the fan and open the window.

Pag on ng makina sa umaga, hindi muna gamit ang aircon. Pag malapit na sa main road sa labas ng village, duon pa lang gamit aircon. Opppssss OT. :D

the issue I find when you turn on the aircon immediately after turning the engine on is that, the voltage reading is bit lower after turning the engine on due to the power demand when starting the engine. so if you turn the aircon too at that time, the voltage is even lower making a bit hard on the battery. though the voltage picks-up in less than a minute or immediately when you rev it.

    To answer the thread question:

I believe it is good practice.

Good practice. I adapted this practice just this year to get rid of the sour smell when first turning on the fans (no compressor). So far, nawala na iyung amoy.

Read the others' posts for the reason (molds in the air ducts).

Just the A/C switch. I leave the A/C fan on all the time except when the windows are down. It's been a habit of mine for years.

most of the posts i read...
people leave the AC fan ON after turning the compressor OFF few kilometers from destination...

not sure if it has bad/good effect naman...

what am doing is...few kilometers from destination i turn both the fan and the compressor OFF..

what do you gurus think? which is better? to turn the compressor OFF first and leave the Fan On, or Turn both Fan and Compressor Off at the same time?

para lang ba lumabas ang konting natirang lamig ang reason why you guys leave your Fan ON?

Do you turn off the aircon when turning off the engine?
