i was at mang mario's yesterday. pinalitan yung drier and isang valve ng aircon ko. bigla kasi nawala ang lamig.

sobrang happy ako kasi ang lamig lamig na ngayon ng aircon ko. humihina na kasi yun at just last week totally nawala na yung lamig.

sabi sa akin nung isang kausap ko dun, i should keep my aircon settings like this: keep the temperature lever to the leftmost slot (coldest), tapos set the fan to number 2. kasi daw, automatic naman daw magdidis-engage yung compressor pag malamig na. ginagawa ko kasi dati, the lever is at 75% and the fan is either 1 or 2 para tipid gasolina. my car is a civic 98.

    tama ba sabi niya? salamat

I think tama yung sabi niya, my thermostat is set on the coldest, and my fan is on 1 or 2 setting

i don't see anything wrong with it.
pero ako, my thermostat level is set to 2 o'clock, tapos yung fan ko is at 1 lang, pag ako mag-isa. pag kasama ko family ko, my fan is set to 2.

hindi ba the colder the temperature, the more the compressor works kaya the more magastos sa gasolina? or is this just a myth? yung no-aircon-para-makatipid-sa-gasolina is just naka-aircon ka or hindi ka naka-aircon and nothing in between?

kung hindi naman masyadong mainit, nasa 40% thermostat ko, tapos fan speed 1 or 2. kung tanghali naman, todo thermostat and speed 3 or 4

coldest settings? if the thermostat works properly i don't think no chance
mag-auto ang compressor since naka-full ang settings.
halfway to 3/4 temp settings would ideal if we want the compressor to
    have time to disengange.

when i initially open my a/c, i start with the no.2 fan speed,
at pag malamig na switch to no 1 fan or stay at no.2 depends
    on the weather.

Even if you leave your AC to full cold, the compressor will still disengage at a certain temp, max coldness doesn't mean subzero temps hehe.

i just set my rides thermostat at 12 o'clock only, and just adjust the fan either 1 or 2.

for my eg, laging 1/2 lang yung thermostat then 1 or 2 pag ako or si misis lang sakay. pag kasama mga bata and tanghali saka ko lang nilalagay sa 3/4 and 3 yung fan.

Assuming your thermostat is working properly, yes, it will disengage. But again, if it's working properly, it will disengage at different temperatures depending on the setting. If you set it at the coldest, then it will turn off the compressor at a lower temperature than if say, it's at the halfway point. IOW, mas malamig yung ime-maintain nyang temp.

So I don't buy it. I set my thermostat to the coldest possible setting that's comfortable for me and my passengers w/o freezing to death. Fan speed? Again, it depends.

    HTH.

The Coldest the Temp. Setting, the longest the time the compressor disengage so depends upon the temperature outside.

well for me, like the others said, if the thermostat is working properly, even if you set to the coldest it would still disengage. so no need to worry what setting you use. i normally set mine to the coldest at first then pag malamig na depending on the weather, i set 40-60%.

my car's compressor usually disengages 10-12 secs at fan 1 at coldest setting, then 5-7 secs at fan 2. mas tipid sa gas if you have it a lower thermostat setting, syempre the rpm at idle is higher when the compressor is engaged compared when it is disengaged. bakit nga pala ganun yun? is it because of the load placed on the engine when it engages?

    my aircon setting:
    3/4 lang ang thermostat lever
fan speed most of the time * 1
minsan pinapatay ko pa yung compressor switch pag malamig na, then push back to ON pag uminit na ulit.

cars that are made for cold countries i think have a different set up on their aircon systems... like for my 2001 starex.. you really cant control the termostat, evn thought there is a control knob. its conected to the heater mechanism, which if you turn it towards the hot settings it would therefore just heat the cold air coming from the cold evaporator... so for me what ever setting i have it on the compressor is always engaging and disengaging normaly.. because i dnt hav control over the termostat..

with analog controls ... 30% sa thermostat, 1-2 fan speed

with digital control ... 23C sa thermostat, 2-bars sa fan speed

i never set the thermostat to maximum cold because it will make the compressor duty cycle to nearly 100% and burdens the engine unnecessarily

Comfort cooling is between 20-24 deg Centigrade... maintain this temp inside your car and set the thermostat within this temp range. For cars w/o a thermometer, you can buy from any car accessories store.
