The VW Philippines site is already up and the initial model lineup is showcased. I am a bit unimpressed though of the trim levels of their models (except the Touareg).
Any thoughts, fellow tsikoteers? I was expecting more from VW.

Probably more to do with the Philippine partners. Its a typical dick move by importers here to skimp on features but charge maximum pricing.
Only 110hp/280Nm for the Jetta 2.0L TDI? Maybe VW-PH will be bringing in the 1.6L BlueMotion TDI as its specs are about the same as those listed in the VW-PH site. The USDM/EUDM Jetta 2.0L TDI is rated at 140hp/320Nm, about the same as the previous gen Focus TDCi.
ano ba yung 1.2TSI? was browsing their website, sabi 1.2L, even for their van..tapos diesel na 2.0..wow di ba underpowered yun?
TSI - Turbo Stratified Injection (same as Audi's TFSI - Turbo Fuel Stratified Injection) or basically a turbocharged petrol engine in VW terms
TDI - Turbocharged Direct Injection, same as other brands' turbo diesel engines
I talked to one of the local VW reps in Greenbelt last Saturday. I asked him why such an output from the TDI engine on the Jetta and even inquired if it was the 1.6L TDI they had on it due to the output specs. He told me that the 2.0L TDI engine they placed on the Jetta and Touran is the same as the one powering the Tiguan. He said they tweaked the engine to lower output for the Jetta and Touran. The engine on the Tiguan is the same as those 2.0L TDI engines they have in Europe and US models. I don't know though why the heck they did that.![]()
In china as of the moment and ive been seeing a lot of tiguans. Looks plain and short walang appeal for me for a car priced in the high 1M. The scirocco however, anlakas ng dating! Maybe in ten years i could afford one haha. Even the golf simple but pogi. Excited to see these on our streets!
Edit: just back read and saw that the tiguan is priced at 2m pala haha my bad. Every day car dito sa china , pipe dream sa pinas.
The Polo will be VW's sub-P1M model in the local market.
The initial Polo model will be the 1.6 TDi MT sedan. It's priced at over P900K.
The unit on display at VW's showroom in BGC is close to the one in the photo above (which is supposedly the final local spec model), it has black door-handles and black side mirrors.
It comes with 15 inch alloy wheels, if I recall correctly, the design of the alloy wheels look similar to the ones below.

A Gasoline model (most likely much cheaper) is being considered.
A hatchback Polo with steel wheels and full covers was also displayed in their showroom, but this is just a sample unit, and not the final local spec model.

Any news on upcoming VW models to be launched here soon?
VW Sharan looks interesting and looks like a good alternative to the Toyota Alphard especially since it comes in diesel...
Volkswagen Sharan MPV Review | What Car?
It seems Toyota has almost monopolized the premium minivan market judging how many Alphards are on the road nowadays.
While Touran is priced just right, it seems too small and is more of a 5 + 2 wagon which doesn't have much demand from premium buyers.
They will be launching the 21st century Beetle this coming April 2 at Volkswagen BGC.
yung Polo at Jetta na diesel ang PM daw ay every 15k kms or 1 year daw according sa isang SA.
What's the difference between DSG and the more popular CVT transmission?
Posted via Tsikot Mobile App
In simple terms, a DSG or DCT is an automated manual tranny that uses 2 clutches while a CVT is a tranny with no preset gears.
From Wikipedia:
A dual-clutch transmission, (DCT) (sometimes referred to as a twin-clutch gearbox or double-clutch transmission), is a type of semi-automatic or automated manual automotive transmission. It uses two separate clutches for odd and even gear sets. It can fundamentally be described as two separate manual transmissions (with their respective clutches) contained within one housing, and working as one unit. They are usually operated in a fully automatic mode, and many also have the ability to allow the driver to manually shift gears, albeit still carried out by the transmission's electro-hydraulics.
A continuously variable transmission (CVT) is a transmission that can change seamlessly through an infinite number of effective gear ratios between maximum and minimum values. This contrasts with other mechanical transmissions that offer a fixed number of gear ratios. The flexibility of a CVT allows the input shaft to maintain a constant angular velocity.
