The 7 speed DSG of Volkswagen has had so many issues. The culprit is the Mechatronics which controls the shifting of the gears
and keeping the next gear change until it is engaged. There are two sets of shafts that store the even numbered gears and reverse
and the odd number gears and the sensors from the throttle, ABS Speed Sensor, Temp sensor are fed into the computer which
sends information to the mix to help the computer decide how the Mechatronics controls the gear and the gear in reserve. The
7 speed has eight sets of gears and clutches (including the reverse) that work independently of each other. There are so many
unreliability issues connected with the 7 speed DSG but since the new 2015 VW Golf GTI has brought in the 6 speed DSG, does
    this solve the issue? How?

I think the correct comparison should be ...
    Subaru WRX vs Golf GTi
    Subaru STi vs Golf R

It is interesting to see the different opinions and impressions in different markets. In Europe we find the optic and haptic of the interior of the Subaru gives an impression of lower qualtiy.

Thanks for the youtube video links. Very fun topgear and autocar comparisons . Is the gti that they sell here with the performance pack (a few extra ponies and the trick differential)?

Planning to replace your Honda Jazz and Ford Mustang with a VW Golf GTI? Best of both worlds. Hehehe.

You are underestimating the VW Golf GTi.

Just keeping it real brader. But seriously, Golf gti is a good car, top of its class.

I can imagine that the Golf GTI will be a more fun car to drive around twisty Marilaque roads despite the lower power output.

Also much more usable as a daily driver

Hmm The stang maybe powerful and fast in straight line but put it on the twisty bits and I think you will find the VW will be quicker. Also the stang may have the fancy colour changing instruments and other toys but the VW exudes more quality and the haptic of the VW is far superior to that of a Ford. Don't get me wrong, I come from a Ford family, my father worked for Ford, I worked for Ford and the Mustang and Ford cars in general have improved tremendously over the past years, but I have worked in the automotive industry for over 30 years now and although Ford is a leader in processes and systems the products are built cheaper.

I have a Golf GTI and I have to say it's very fun to drive, very well equipped, and has given me no problems so far in the month I've owned it. Gas consumption is not too bad (7-8 km/l) considering it's a performance car. That's in mixed EDSA-Skyway-Paranaque service road traffic. I was looking at it versus the WRX/WRX STI and decided to go for the German engineering and the chance to just be different.

Granted it's not perfect (and reviews all over the internet are glowing over this Mk7), but it's pretty close. I came from a Forester so I miss the sunroof, and I wish the dash didn't show so much dust because of the carbon fiber accents.

It's also my only car so it has to be practical (I'm married), and I'm happy to say it is. It's fun when I want it to be fun, and sedate/smooth when I want it to be. It doesn't look too "angas". Nothing like switching the DSG to Sport after some guy thinks he can overtake what looks like a boring family hatchback :-)

How does the torque feel? I tried the wrx (which has more power) and didnt feel any kick.

When I drove the WRX, it felt more like a locomotive than a rocket - flat powerband from 2500 rpm to redline. You'll get shocked you're in triple digit speeds with very little road.

And the grip on the corners - like on rails too. So it's basically a sports train. [emoji13]

Its the same price as a wrx abroad but 500k more expensive than the same wrx here. That's a tough pill to swallow though. They aren't 500k apart in performance (in fact the wrx has even more straight line and outright 10/10 performance because of AWD) and the features are roughly the same..... which is what bugs me. But I'm a fan of hatchbacks so I'm still super intrigued by it. If only the price was comparable to the wrx......

At first when I saw the ad of volkswagen golf gti on the newspaper I was not interested at all. When I found out the price i told myself thats ridiculously expensive for that plain looking hatchback. Who would buy this? Then I did some research on the history of the Gti and was surprised on how popular this car is in Europe. Read a bunch or reviews. All were positive. To make the story short I went ahead to BGC Volkswagen to see the Gti in person. My first impression was it looks nice on the outside. Not flashy, a sleeper car but has this nice somewhat elegant look to it. When I opened the drivers door and saw the steering wheel, dashboard, gauges and seats I was blown away. Not expecting it to look that nice in person. When I sat down, perfect seating position. I really like the interior. You can see the carbon fiber accents on the dash and on the side doors. Very elegant and sporty at the same time. The combination of the gauges, dashboard, steering wheel and those fabric seats all made me decide this would now be on my wishlist.

Also visited subaru and mini that same day.

First stop Subaru. Checked out the Sti and wrx. Both these cars exterior looked exactly the same minus the sti badge and bigger brakes, rims and wing. Every else the same. The interior and seats looked ok on the sti, more plain on the wrx. Cannot compare to Gti. It wins in the interior department. But the Sti in blue really strikes me. I love the look. But reading on magazine and internet on how the engine is an 8 yr old design and will be changed for 2017 model, that would be mid next yr kept me from pulling the trigger.

Next stop was Mini. Checked out the cooper S. Looks nice outside but interior is too busy. Looks cheap compared to Golf Gti's interior.

Also considering the Mazda Miata and Ford mustang GT. But leaning more towards the Gti and Miata. Never had a convertible before and it would be perfect for our twisty roads here in the province. But a.so thinking of the 250lbs of torque on the Gti that I'll be missing if I get the Miata. Mustang GT looks aggressive but don't think i will use it that much compared to the two cars. Already have a daily driver so this is gonna be a toy car for me. What do you think? Can I get more feedbacks from Gti owners. How do you like your car? By the way, I cant find in any reviews if Philippine version Gti has Launch control? Or is it like included since we have DSG transmission? Hope to hear from you guys. Thanks.

This should be in the car comparison forum.

Fun car? Toy car? Mustang v8 without a shadow of a doubt. Looks, power, control ,ride, pedigree, satisfaction of ownership. Every review is glowing and positive. It puts a smile on my face everytime and i literally look for reasons to drive it (traffic or not).

    Biased opinion ^^^^^

Get the Golf GTi. It has more awards and accolades. German vs American.
