    In terms of reliability, at a certain point, this is no longer an issue as most manufacturers will generally put out a certain reliability level that will be acceptable to most users.

    I’ve owned a Chevy, Suzuki, Toyota, Opel, Subaru, Mitsubishi, Hyundai and now a VW. Under reasonable use and maintenance, I’ve found them to be reliable and none of them have broken down and left me stranded.

    Some have been reliable as expected (big body corolla and Montero), the Elantra is absolutely trouble free despite the negative feelings still on Korean cars. The Subaru though surprisingly had minor quality niggles (faulty brake position indicator, failed auto door lock). The Chevy Cruze and Suzuki APV ownership was likewise uneventful.

    Even dun sa Opel, kahit orphaned na siya, I still managed to find parts such as engine mounts, headlights, injectors easily and fitted by my suki Rapide shop. One of the reasons i got a VW is I miss the feel of a Euro car in the Opel Astra. Very solid construction and it could cruise at 100+ quite comfortably.

    So give the VW brand time to mature and the Ayalas to expand the network.

    Yup.

    VW in America done did a horrible thing.

    But let's not forget:

    Toyota in America denied issues with SUA (not the theoretical electronic gremlin ones, but the very real floormat issues) until it blew up in their face.

    GM in America had that ignition barrel issue that turned deadly. Deadma... until after the bankruptcy, when they could not be sued for pre-bankruptcy issues.

    While it was a terrible thing, I'm not particularly bothered about Dieselgate.

    For one, it doesn't affect local cars, since our VWs aren't tuned to US standards, anyway... so whatever pollution they make, they'd make that whether or not Dieselgate happened.

    For another, it doesn't say ANYTHING about reliability or safety.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

    What I can say is owning Japanese cars aren't as cheap, and let me put that into perspective. Casa maintained lahat brand new na naging at kasalukuyang cars ko. Honda (sakit sa ulo, mahal din, regardless of the dealership Pasig, Magallanes, and another one I can't remember), my two Subaru cars are serviced MI only and I follow the recommendations and paid the price. I have received excellent service from MI all these years.

    Yung Toyota (first car) was purchased second hand so hindi naka tikim ng casa yun, likewise the Nissan Sentra na laging sira ang suspension

    Not my car, but the Mazda 3 Executive ng officemate ko pabalik-balik ng casa, laki nagastos suspension and rattle issues

    I've spent zero (0) for my Peugeot 308 now about to turn two years old in 2018.

    I don't have any expections yet on the Golf GTS, wala pa yung kotse eh.

    What is the change oil interval of your Peugeot? Every 5 years? ...

    In general, owning a vehicle will be expensive if one does not bother to do their homework and keep on agreeing to what the dealer tells you to spend ...

    IMO, having everything equal... Car Price, Dealership Maintenance, Parts Availability outside the dealership...

    2 lang issue ko against the usual cars (non-Toyota, Honda, Isuzu and Mitsubishi)

    1. Outside the Metro, ang hirap maghanap ng parts...
    2. Resale value - pwede mo ibenta ng mura yung sasakyan pero kung wala kang swerte, wala pa din bibili...

    Peugeot is every year or 12,000 km. I failed to mention that I got 3 years free maintenance, hence the zero "cost."

    If I find the reason of the casa to be valid I go with the recommendation. Madami din ako tinanggihan or na-defer na recommendation for my Subaru vehicles.

    Being in a bandwagon culture like pinoys, there is always a lot of FUD for choices that are not the norm.

    In my family's experience since the Magsaysay administration (purely anecdotal), the brands that lasted the longest and gave us the least headaches were Mercedes, VW, and International (my dad had a Scout that ran for decades). I drive a Kia these days.

    The worst were Ford, Opel, and Chevy. Chevy gets particular mention as the dealerships were also a pain in the ass.<Interestingly, my late lolo loved Delta motors (even if he was a Crispa fan) but my dad and titos (Jawo and Arnaiz fans) had mixed feelings. >



    Going back on-topic: VW's last but parts are currently not as plentiful as the other marques. This hopefully shouldn't be a problem in the near-term with proper maintenance and careful driving. I say go for it.

    Mercedes Benz before W210 and W220 were quite reliable ... but after that ...

    hopefully more parts will come in. the 15k or 1 year PMS is also a good thing ... no more first 1k eh abala din sa mga lakad visit sa casa

    I got the 308 because I like hatchback but I can't afford a GTI. For the 1.3M price ng Jetta with the active safety features (Business Edition +) panalo yung price. I test drove both the Jetta and Golf GTS and I find the Jetta to have a better (subjective) suspension perhaps due to multi-link rears and 17" wheels compare to the torsion beam and 18" wheels of the GTS. But I got the GTS pa din because that's the closest thing to a hatchback.

    Im set on the facelifted Golf Gti next year with the power module. Gonna have a lot of fun with it. Sana lang they brought the R here. AwD is perfect for our crappy road surface.

    Musta po ang GTS? Wala po ba kayong naencounter na problems so far?

    Firstly, it wasn't the car I originally wanted. I got the color I didn't want. But, at the price point, nothing comes close to what I get.

    There are things I don't like but it is what it is.

    Car is less than a month, no problems thus far and I don't expect any problems in the foreseeable future.

    White. Got the unit offered to ayala employees only. Yun sinabi ng pinsan ko who works for VW QA, hindi na kami nag dalawang isip. Sobrang sulit for 850k

    Same with us, thru the Ayala corporate car promo. Ours is black with the 17" rims and leather seats (950k). Pansin ko though that the 1.6L TDI does not sound (during idle) as refined as the 2.0L TDI model.

    Didn't hear it side by side but when i got to try the 2.0, ang layo nito sa 1.6 when it comes to engine response. Sarap i-drive ng 2.0 TDI

    Agreed. Has nothing to do with us here in Pinas. Anyway, even after that dieselgate VW still became the number 1 in the world ... . I own a Jetta 1.4TSI 7DSG anyway and I love the car very fun to drive. I'm looking into getting that second hand 2000 golf mk4 1.9TDI ! I just don't know if our local VW casa will service the car.
