I think both points have merit. Users have formed communities for whatever brand and/or model of vehicles they have in the likes of FB Groups, Reddit, Discord, etc.

But like Travajante, I think this is also exacerbated by the lack of customization on these newer cars. Ano pa paguusapan? Can't replace the head unit because it's integrated. You can't delve too much into the electricals, especially the EVs and hybrids, because they're probably more software than they are hardware and changing one thing could upset something and bring up a whole slew of errors.

The proprietary nature of these modern tech makes customizations pretty much unreachable to casual folks.

Maybe there will come a time when EVs will be treated like Tamiya RC cars.... palit ng high-speed motor para tumulin, but at the expense of shorter range, or gearing ratios, and drivetrain controllers, etc. haha

Tamiya RC cars. Fun times. Was amazed how plastic cement would actually melt the plastic parts to weld them together.

    agree ako dito...

yesterday, I saw 2 "modern cars" na naka set up

A Corolla HEV (morning) and new Civic (evening)

Both cars were lowered (yung di mahulugan ng piso) with skirts and Borla exhaust.

I even told my wife... pangit pala ng hybrid na naka Borla. namamatay yung tunod ng muffler.

Then I realized... when was the last time you saw a current gen car na naka-set up? nung 90's and early 2000's kasi, parang ang normal lang ng naka-set up na car sa University Belt. nyayon, halos sa car show ka na lang makakakita.

    ***

I grew up fixing my own car (nasa PUV business kasi kami and my dad believes na "dapat alam mo gumawa")

When I started working... mura lang pala PMS. matulog na lang ako kapag weekend.

presennt day - we can no longer fix our cars...

I bought a Vespa para may kinukutingting pa din ako... later I found out na computerized din pala sya. And yung advanced diagnostics tool nya is subscription based...

Yung ibang present hybrids for sure same din yan.

i lost interest in kutingtinging the car,
when i found out that i couldn't lie down under it anymore, without help lying down and help getting up.

I still find joy tinkering with my vehicle every now and then as well as over-analyzing things like what oil and fluids is the best to use, etc. Though I’ve relegated most of the tedious stuff like washing and waxing to third parties, I still believe in the mantra: ‘If you want things done right, do it yourself.’ But there are just certain tasks that simply take too much out of me. I'll let them do it... with close supervision.

Sa carwash sa labas, may at least 2 person kasi na nagcacarwash at nagvavacuum at the same time so easy lang sa kanila tapusin in an hour.

Parang its time na to let the carwash do their thing to my car and accept that the swirls are unavoidable.

Yeah. It just takes too long and too much effort. I just bring it to the car wash nowadays.

Pag ganyan i think ideal talaga yung ceramic coating. No need na isabon yung oto although i think tumatagal lang eto ng 2-3 years tsaka dapat maayos at pulido ung application para mas maganda ang kalalabasan.

Depemde sa number of coats, may pang 2, 5, 10 years with re-application as part of the package.

It's weird you could still view the topic because I deleted it already. Deleted it again.
