[merged] Tsikot Access Speed Issues Discussion Thread

Lately, it has been observed that accessing tsikot forums and classifieds have deteriorated to a point that it takes a long time for tsikot.yehey.com pages to load. We have been told by our webhost provider (yehey.com) that server resources running the tsikot.yehey.com site are nearing maximum utilization.

Thus, in order to avert further deterioration of access speeds, we have decided to temporarily disabled several forum features to decrease the strain on our host's server resources.

The following forum features have been disabled temporarily pending resolution of server resources utilization issues. These features utilize a lot of database queries and processes and thus exert additional load on server resources and bandwidth

a. searching for guests (they can use the google search box for the site prominently displayed under the header)
b. Forum Quick Jump (for forum display and thread display)
c. Display of users browsing a particular forum or thread
d. Similar threads (thread display)
e. Replied to thread Indicators (arrow symbols)

Rest assured that both Tsikot.com and Yehey.com are moving to resolve the issue. A server upgrade is in the offing, and for the meantime, we have to request for understanding for the inconvenience of such features deactivation.

We are reiterating that this move is temporary and these features will be reactivated once the upgrade has been completed.

I think Yehey should give us (tsikot.com) a bigger, badder server because to the high traffic that we get, plus advertisements! Ang dami ko nang na-recommend to register here, kahit casual na kilala ko lang and a lot of people benefit from this site. Just my two cents though...

i don't care about those features, and anything that makes tsikot faster and more reliable, i am in favor of.

the site was becoming dam near unusable with delays and load failures, especially during times of heavy shoutbox usage (which is 100% the fault of imperialistic moderators m2 and nicolodeon )

pero sobrang bagal na nga ng tsikot ngayon. sa firefox tab ko eto una ko binubuksan tapos bubukas pa ako ng mga 4 pang site. tsikot pa rin nahuhuli mag-open. hehehe

im sorry how does disabling the quickjump make this forum faster?
you have to go to the root forum page to switch forums.

kung meron quickjump, kahit nasa loob ka pa ng isang thread pwede ka na lipat ng forums.

OTOH, guest searching and "similar threads" display should never have been implemented.

A ok, kahapon ng hapon pa yata nawala yung quickjump pati yung yung mga currently viewing.

Buti na lang nasa favorites to yung pitstop cafe. Pagkatapos ko mag post, click lang sa favorites uli para bumalik lang sa pitstop.

i'm not sure if there is improvement ... a single page of tsikot is still some 500 kilobytes same as before ... besides traffic (this is major cause), it would help speed up loading if the page size is reduced, for example, getting rid of flash-based features and/or other animated objects in the page
