Starting Monday, the Philippines will adopt “Pilipinas kay Ganda" as its new slogan in what Malacañang described as a bid to "reinvigorate" the country's tourism campaign.

President Benigno Aquino III said the new slogan to be launched Nov. 15 will replace the existing slogan "WOW Philippines".

The slogan aims to "reinvigorate our country’s tourism campaign and double tourist arrivals within the next three years," said a Malacañang statement posted Saturday night on the Presidential Communications Operations Office website.

Aquino, who is now in Japan for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, said the government will also train tourist police and guides to ensure the safety of local and foreign tourists alike.

Earlier this month, the Department of Tourism (DOT) said it would allocate P100 million for new media promotions, including a new website, to reach its goal of doubling tourist arrivals. (See: Govt to beef up RP tourism using new media — DOT)

Philippine tourism suffered a blow last Aug. 23 when retired police officer Rolando Mendoza took hostage a busful of Hong Kong tourists in Manila.

Mendoza was killed along with eight tourists, prompting Hong Kong to issue a "black" alert discouraging travel to the Philippines.—JV, GMANews.TV

    HUH? Pilipinas kay Ganda?

Tanga naman, how can a foreigner understand what Kay Ganda means when they see a tourist poster of the Philippines?

if I am a foreigner and I read a sign with that.. or see an ad over at CNN or BBC... I still have to ask "What does Eng Gendaa mean?"... let's see how Malacanang (or should it be Dept of Tourism.. o baka ABSCBN... ) defends this...

Philippines: Survive at your own means

Seriously, dapat tanggalin na nila yung "Buy Philippines" liner on Expo, as it connotes a different meaning, like Philippines for sale.

WOW Philippines is a lot better, IMO.

The new slogan sounds like it came from a TV network. It has a good meaning. But it is also not catchy and it is very ordinary and probably incomprehensible to many foreign tourists, all of which a slogan shouldn't be.

    agree.

    WOW PHILIPPINES is better.

But slogans can't beat efficient airports/transportation, cleanliness, good roads, safe streets

Parang galing sa ABS-CBN yun ah! Pilipinas win na win and Umagang kay Ganda.. Wow is already known, when they advertise this internationally in BBC and CNN during the time of Sen. Gordon and Sec Ace Durano.. There's so many taxi in Germany with WOW philippines sticker.. Kaya maraming German National tourist dito before.

We must follow internationally, like Amazing Thailand. Truly Asia in Malaysia and Visit Pakistan at your own risk..hehehehe

WOW Philippines has more recall than the new slogan. It's gonna be hard to remember this for non tagalog speakers. I wonder who came up with this stupid idea.

2 Japanese tourists robbed in Pasay City
MANILA, Philippines – Two Japanese tourists were robbed and mauled in two separate incidents in Pasay City last Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

In the first incident, police said that Fukuura Kenichiro, 56, of Tokyo, Japan, and currently billeted at Lindon Suite Hotel in Ortigas Avenue, Pasig City, said that he met a certain Sheila and two unidentified men at the Wine Museum Hotel and Resto at 225 Aurora Boulevard, Pasay City last Wednesday night.

Fukuura recalled that he and the three suspects went out of the bar at around 8 p.m.

Unknown to him, two other men were waiting outside for them.

Later, the suspects pushed him and forced him to board a white car where he was mauled and robbed. The suspects dropped the foreigner on Domestic Road in Pasay City.

Police said that the victim walked until he reached the Petron Gasoline Station, where he was seen by Club 9 manager Russel Cayetano.

Probers said that Cayetano brought him to San Juan de Dios Hospital for treatment. The Japanese national sustained bruises on his ears and right side of his body.
Ayusin muna yung security ng mga turista natin.

Our family friend from HK was robbed while riding a Kalesa in Intramuros. He vowed NEVER to come back to the Philippines.

mga balikbayan? eh talaga naman magsisibalikan karamihan sa kanila dito sa atin eh. dapat bang sila pa ang target-in ng tourism campaign natin? talaga namang mga wala na yatang talino sa gobyerno natin. hayyyyyy
