Qantas makes more checks over A380 engine 'anomalies'
A Qantas A380 at Los Angeles International Airport (5 November 2010) Qantas jets have been hit by two separate engine problems in as many days
The Australian airline, Qantas, has said it has found "slight anomalies" on three Airbus A380 engines and is keeping its fleet of six passenger jets grounded for further checks.
Chief executive Alan Joyce said there "was oil where oil shouldn't be on the engines" of two of the super-jumbos.
Qantas was "trying to check what the cause of that would be", he added.
A similar engine broke apart in flight on Thursday, forcing a Qantas A380 to make an emergency landing in Singapore.
After the incident - the first since the aircraft came into service in 2007 - the airline began checking their Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engines.
On Monday, Mr Joyce said engineers had found oil in three engines, which was unusual given that they were only two years old.

Qantas' Alan Joyce: "A380 fleet will remain out of service for at least the next 72 hours"
"These are new engines on new aircraft and they shouldn't have these issues at this stage, so it's given us indication of an area for us to focus into," he told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
"We are keeping an open mind on it but... We think it could have been a materials issue on the engine, or a design issue."
Mr Joyce said all of the airlines A380s would likely be grounded for at least another 72 hours.
"We still believe with the progress we are making - this is days not weeks - but we will take as long as it needs to in order that we are absolutely comfortable the aircraft is safe to fly," he added.
In an unrelated incident on Friday, a Qantas Boeing 747 - also equipped with Rolls-Royce engines - was forced to return to Singapore with an engine problem after taking off.
Mr Joyce said it was "not a safety issue" and that there were no plans to ground the airline's fleet of 747s.
Rolls-Royce, the British firm which makes the engines for the Qantas planes, saw its share price fall by nearly 5% on Friday.

We were able to experience this huge aircraft during our family vacation to Australia last year. We took Singapore Airlines for this trip. Boeing777 flight took us to Singapore and then A380 to Melbourne. On our way we were seated on the upper deck and lower deck on our return. Make sure to arrange your seating assignment during your check-in in Manila because upper deck tend to be occupied early. There's not much different among big aircraft except I find it quieter especially on the upper deck. Airport terminal is especially equipped with two tubes one each for upper and lower deck. We were all amazed and happy to fly on this huge aircraft.

Has anyone seen this plane this year? Last year I saw the Singapore Airlines in HK while waiting for our flight back to Manila. And I also saw a Quantas Airlines in SFO Airport.
Ngayon mukhang natigil ang paggamit dahil sa mga negative findings nila with the aircraft.
Sayang naman... Kelan kaya ito ulit magagamit?

Qantas doesn't seem to be maintaining their planes properly. Even with Boeing planes, may incidents sila. Sila lang, AFAIK, ang nagkakaproblem with A380, all the other airlines ok naman.

December 30th, 2012 10:45 PM #7Unforgettable flight ko to since yung first time ko sumakay ng 380 we were sent back to sing kasi nagsara yung airport dun sa heathrow dahil super ice daw sa london and hindi kaya lumapag any plane sa airport since puro yelo. Nasa bandang india na kami nun.hehe nakakatakot because the captain started his speech by "we have to go back to singapore because we are having a problem". Kala ko mag crash na yung plane hehe. This happened around dec 20 2010.hehe nashare ko lang. Yung pangalawang beses ko nakaskay was sin-hthrow pa din. And nothing special naman. Comment ko naman sa 380, ok siya and very spacious and yung upuan malaki. Pero depende naman sa airline yung size of seats. And yung upper deck ata is para sa suite. Dun lang kasi ako lagi sa economy. Hehe

Ganda ng a380 lol. Nakakita ako before sa changi airport. Lufthansa ata yun pero mas maganda yung sa emirates. Sobrang premium yung loob, especially sa mga kwarto ng 1st class. Daming amenities tapos may shower pa.
