Becoming a tourist in one's country. What's the best car to bring the entire family on a trip around the Philippines.

Going North to the Ilocos...to Boracay...to Bicol....to Bagiuo....to down South to Davao City, passing the SRNH or Maharlika, what should be the ideal car or vehicle to bring along and with all the kids, camping gears, pots and pans etc etc.

Diesel AUV or MPV. Better kung 4x4 SUV or 4x4 pickup.

    Sometimes kasi, " what roads"

Yes, diesel is the way to go. aside from being fuel efficient and lower cost per liter, it is available everywhere. have driven the luzvimin route quite a few times and i experienced a bit of difficulty looking for unleaded fuel when i was driving a u.s. version suzuki samurai. unlike when i was driving a hilux, looking for diesel was not a problem. hindi naman masyado kailangan ng 4x4 kasi paved naman ang roads, pero kung meron ka 4x4, it would be an advantage if you get in to sticky situations, especially when it rains. SUV or AUV would be great para may space for your gears and your kids. they would need some entertainment kasi boring yan sa kids pag long drives. ("are we there yet?") dvd player will help. or game consoles. bring plenty of music.

kaka inggit. sama ako. have fun and be safe!

We are 7 all in all. My ride is the Honda City 2003 IDSI 1.3CVT.

Only 5 will go the 2 big ones will not.

I'm afraid of my small car. It lasted for 5 years here in Gensan, it may not last the journey to Ilocos Norte.

    I'm still imagining the possibility.

Innova j manual diesel? No. The clutch too hard for my arthritic knee.
I'm eyeing this used Starex AT crdi grx 2006 in one car dealer here.

SUV na yan especially if you're in to offroading. Diesel siyempre para fuel efficient

Ok na yang starex at least pang family diba?

the innova will be too small. get the starex, besides more passenger and cargo space it has a higher ground clearance also. just make sure you have the right tyres for it. if it still has the original kumho then make sure you have goodyear dueler ht installed. some other tyres have better grip (dunlop, michelin) but longer lasting ang goodyear especially on unpaved roads.

and as said earlier, make sure there is an entertainment system for those long trips. kahit na portable dvd lang. and have the engine, brakes and underpinnings checked before going.

Starex would be a good alternative. Large Cabin space, very comfy. Depending on the places you want to visit...4x4's might not be required.

Having 4x4's provides you a totally different driving experience compared to sedans or vans. You have the freedom to explore more...get off the beaten track... drive along the beach...wade through knee deep waters...etc.

I was going to say Hyundai Starex A/T as well. Lots of interior room with enough seating for 9 or 11 people (depending on variant). Enough space for you, your family and whatever gear you will bring and buy along the way.

Just have it checked especially critical parts like the alternator and the A/C systems.

Although lacking in 4x4, it should be able to get you through most areas without problem since it still has good ground clearance. Just bring the usual towing tools just in case you get stuck somewhere. BTW, I am not sure but some Starex models are fitted with LSD, which will come useful in situations where traction is limited.

SUV with 4x4 and ladder-chassis (if you're gonna go over rocks and boulders). You can get MS 3.2 GLS SE (160+ hp) or KIA Sorento VGT (175hp), Ford Everest 4x4 3.0L. Fortuner ok din kaso baka matapat ka sa may problem na engine yari ka pag bigla nag-choke sa remote area so wag na lang yun.

Most comfortable would be Hyundai Veracruz 3.0L 4x4 240hp since monocoque body. I have no idea how it can deal with the stresses though. Im sure ok din Santa Fe CRDI 4x4 kung mga rough roads lang.

I don't think a full blown 4X4 truck or pickup is required because the TS will be traveling by road and not by trail. No need for rock or boulder climbing abilities. Something just enough to ride over dirt roads and small rocks without stressing out the suspension too much.

The reason why I said Starex, I am concerned with the comfort with the long drives between destination for the driver and passengers alike. And since this will be a long driving trip, a large cargo space would be preferred that is accessible from inside the vehicle without stopping will be beneficial, especially for the kids.

Anyway, whatever vehicle the TS decides upon, it would be best to list down all the dealerships (along your route) of the car brand of the vehicle you are getting. At least if you break down somewhere, you already have a number to call for assistance for parts and repairs.

Question: IF Van, are there still issues with the driver's butt on the engine? Umiinit kasi ang seat nyan. Bad for butt.
If its still true, if TS is driving, it might be uncomfortable in the long run.
I would suggest SUV, around the size of Sta. Fe, SUV's the size of Tucson has cargo capacity issues on camping trips. Especially if you buy something on each stop over.

Kawawa nga City pag ginawa mo yan kasi city car best yan di touring.
Mag automatic ka (pero ok nga kung CVT or tiptronic car kung medyo masama knees mo).
Ok yan yung Starex na AT. Lalo kung diesel. Basta MPV-SUV ok sa gusto po ninyong gawin. Good luck sa pag bili.

SUV. para hindi na mamroblema para sa canopy ng pickup. More seats rin if ever needed.

But if you're worried that the cargo might soil the interior, pickup na.

Personally, gusto kong ipangprobinsya e yung XC70 na station wagon...

Wishful thinking: Pag may expedition na 14 km/li ang konsumo, that's it right there!
