Rimowa or Tumi for hand-carry. Was choosing between these two models (Rimowa Essential vs Tumi Latitude):

Similar SRP at $600 (PH pricing closer to 45k though). Rimowa has a more classic design although the Essential looks plain compared to the higher-end aluminum Classic.

Tumi looks edgier and the case is scratch-resistant, plus easily identifiable with the your initials engraved.

Clincher was that Tumi was on sale at 60% off while Rimowa was only 10% off. It's like getting a Tumi for the price of a Samsonite.

For check-in, Samsonite. Has to be durable enough to get thrown around but not too expensive. American Tourister is good too if you're on a budget. Feels flimsier than Samsonite but should be more durable than mall brands.

Left-field option - Muji. Almost same price as Samsonite though but a good alternative if you want something different.

If you're on a tight budget the Xiaomi luggage actually looks durable and decent for the same price as dep store luggage.

Best to buy luggage abroad, much cheaper than PH. Most I got with a local purchase was 25% off with Samsonite. American Tourister offers 30% discount every now and then. Compared when you buy abroad where 50% discounts are pretty common.

Just buy cheap luggage pang check in. Babalibagin lang din sa airport, conveyor belts, and pag hahandle ng tao.

Kaya di ko kayang bumili ng mahal na luggage 🤣🤣🤣

American tourister is samsonite's lower end brand while Tumi is their high end to compete with Rimowa.

Have you heard of Away? They have nice luggages too.

Hmmm... In my case, really don't see the point in stuff pricier than the things they're supposed to carry, hold, protect.[emoji848]....Just me, though.[emoji4]

Agree with this one. Using a pricey container/luggage is just an invitation for a thief.

Usually the pricey ones have the lightest weight, more cargo.

I have this old Samsonite, fabric pa sya and the dimensions can fit a carry on depending on the carrier, but it weighs 3 kgs na agad, so you can only pack 4 kgs.

I have no problem using delsey and samsonite as my luggages. Don't buy cheap luggage. I have encountered some people before on our tour they complain that the handle or one of the wheels is damage which are the vulnerable part in a luggage. Also I see to it that my luggage has double wheel instead of single.

I never liked the aluminum/plastic fiber shell type bags. They get easily dented or worse cracked and I pointed out a thief magnet since by themselves they look expensive and looking sturdy likely having something expensive inside. I prefer the more durable cordura fabric covered bags. But its hard to find these cordura bags now.

fabric is, to me, the more practical choice.
many have expansion features, in case one gets carried away at the shopping district.

the solid maletas, will always have only one size, whether they have anything inside or not.

some sellers advertise that their zippers are burike-resistant. is there such a thing as burike-resistant zippers?

    Meron din expandable hard-case.

Super useful during my last trip since we had a last-minute pasalubong run. Nagkasya naman after opening up the expansion, saved me from having to carry extra plastic bags on board.

    good for you!

years ago, we had to buy a cheap maleta in HK, for the pasalubongs.
years later, ok pa yung maletang yun. con todo balibag, etc.

If you travel light, fabric is fine. The poly ones take more content mass.

We buy luggage pieces in SM or Landmark. We don’t spend that much on the more premium brands. They hold up pretty well over time.

My current large size luggage is running 5 years with around 12 to 16 connecting flights a year. Emphasis on the connecting kasi i'm sure they handle it differently kapag time bound lalo na pag hot transit.

And i always maximise my luggage for those PH goodies like mang tomas, 3 in 1 coffee, and etc. Parating sagad at 29 t9 30 kg.

Surprisingly maayos pa naman. Although mejo nagsasawa na ako sa ichura.

Penguin brand by the way. Bought it for 100 CAD at 70% off last 2016.

    Define sulit!

wow... 30KG on a white country? (you mentioned Canadian $)

normally kapag caucasians ang hahawak ng luggage sa destination airport hanggang 23KG lang pinapayagan nila...

same reason why I replaced our check-in bags to 24/25in, mayadong mabigat ung 28in
