i just read in Time magazine that in 2005, 30million pieces of baggage were lost by airlines globally, of which 250,000 were never returned to their owners.

have anyone here experienced having their baggage lost by airlines?

    dagdag ko pa:

Airlines spent USD2.5B returning lost baggages to owners in 2005, up from USD1.6B in 2004.

ano kaya causes ng mga lost baggages?

yup. I lost one luggage during my trip to the US, under NW airlines. But my travel insurance paid me $2,000 to compensate for it.

worst is delayed luggage for me. My flight was a connecting flight from Mineapolis to Narita, Japan to phils. In Narita we arrived late so I guess of the 2 check in luggage my golf clubs were left behind and that the next day it was available. Oh well at least I got around $60 for compensation for the delay. Was seated in business class this happened 5 years ago and it was Northwest airlines

hehehe galing talaga ng NW pagdating sa mga luggage, pano matatanda na kasi mga flight attendants and mine was coming from Mineapolis to Narita too! I will not fly with them again tsk tsk tsk. it took me two weeks before they finally declared my baggage lost - good thing I got a Blue Cross travel insurance!

    Chaps,

Used to handle this for about 8 years when I was still the airport manager for British Airways. Yes, I also lost my baggage once in the UK and it sucks as I could not do anything. According to the Warsaw convention which is stated at the back of your ticket, the airline is responsible for only USD20.00 per kilo that is checked in. Yes, or a maximum of USD400.00 for the regular check-in allowance of 20kilos. What if the contents are valuable? This is where your travel insurance comes in.

As to the question why do they get lost, believe me there are thieves everywhere other than the Philippines. Remember that video on cabe TV where they featured airport personnel stashing away goods from your baggage, yes they happen. Also, the connecting flight sometimes affect transfer of the baggage especially if it is not in compliance of MCT or the required minimum connecting airline todo transferring. Also, it is very important for your baggage to have an ID that is readable by the most stupid person on earth. Otherwise, for disposal.

Why does your suitcase have cracks sometimes after retrieval? Because they are being carried by human personnel and it depends on the number of hours that he slept the night before on how he may wish to handle your baggage on its way to the conveyor.

speaking of travel insurance, ok ba yung travel insurance na kasama sa mga credit cards when you use the card to purchase the ticket? do you have to inform the card issuer or automatic na?

Company issue yung laptop.
