Interesting tidbits from the Cebu Pacific incident last night:
1.) A passenger refused to jump onto the evacuation slide because she didn't want her shorts to get wet;
2.) A passenger kept on complaining that the plane should've stayed on the runway, and kept on questioning why it veered off the runway;
3.) A passenger who waited for 2 hours to get some J.Co doughnuts complained that he wasn't able to take his doughnuts home. He blames the cabin crew for "taking" them;
4.) Some passengers complaining of having to walk to the terminal after evacuation.
Don't they realize that what just happened could have killed them instantly?
They should be thankful they got to feel the rain again, be thankful that they can walk again, be thankful to be able to step on the runway again, be thankful they still have complete legs to wear shorts again, and be thankful for the fact that they can wait in long lines again to get new doughnuts.
Pasalamat sila at di sumabog yung mga engines na nakaladkad sa lupa. Imagine if that happened. Tustadong doughnuts.
pina-pa-clear na ng CAAP yung runway:
DOTC orders CAAP to clear Davao int'l airport for resumption of flights | Economy | GMA News Online
Updated 2:33 p.m.) The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) has instructed the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) to clear the Francisco Bangoy International Airport in Davao City to allow flights there to resume.
The airport was closed after a Cebu Pacific (Cebu Air, Inc.) aircraft carrying 165 passengers skidded off the runway as it made a landing Sunday evening. No casualties have so far been reported.
In a text message, DOTC spokesperson Michael Arthur Sagcal said that Transportation Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya gave the order.
Hel added that CAAP investigators are now at the international airport to conduct their probe and extraction operations.
Sagcal also said that according to the Air Passenger Bill of Rights, passengers are entitled to reimbursement for cancelled flights. Airlines must also notify the passengers of flight cancellations through call, text or email.
"In case airlines fail to do so, complaints may be brought to the CAB [Civil Aeronautics Board]. The DOTC and CAB are already acting on complaints received," he said.
PAL arrangements
In an advisory issued Monday, Philippine Airlines (PAL) announced that it has upgraded to a wide-bodied aircraft for its General Santos - Manila flight at 4:00 p.m. in order to accommodate passengers from Davao who are willing to be re-routed to General Santos.
According to the company, it has had to cancel nine PAL flights and two PAL Express flights since the closure of the airport Sunday night.
But pending investigation dapat grounded mgs Cebu pac flights. Until lumabas ba human error Ang reason

As expected, sawsaw na mga politico.
I do agree that there is fault in the way the airline and its personnel handled the situation. However incidents of overshooting the runway has happened several times before and not as much issue was brought up; Zest Air overshot the Caticlan runway twice if i recall correctly. Remember that there was also a time that PAL landed on SLEX many years ago). IMO, the incident is focusing too much on the carrier and not the other parties that likewise oversee all our carriers and even our equally inadequate airport facilities (have we forgotten how piss poor and deadly our own airport facilities are?). I think there's some hidden agenda also behind all these as well given that Cebu Pacific has been garnering a lot of sales as compared to other carriers. Heck, in hindsight, they did pioneer the discounted air fares which changed the travel and tourism landscape, and caused carriers like PAL who live in total monopoly prior to that (even after deregulation) to rethink things. In the end, everyone got lucky and there were no casualties and this should serve as an awakening to all parties concerned (the carriers, civil aviation authorities, etc.) that everything really needs a look-in and overhaul as air traffic will continue to increase in the years to come.Cebu Pacific apology not enough, says lawmaker

MANILA, Philippines – Cebu Pacific’s apology for one of its plane’s runway mishap at the Davao International Airport was not enough and was even called unsatisfactory by a lawmaker.
Bayan Muna Representative Neri Colmenares said it was “not enough” that the budget airline apologized after flight 5J-971 skidded off the airport’s runway Sunday night.
He urged the management of Cebu Pacific to allow authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the runway accident.
“They should be open to a complete investigation of the incident as well as a full review of their policies,” said Colmenares.
“Cebu-Pacific should also shoulder all the expenses and damages incurred not just of their passengers but those of other airlines as well who were stranded,” the lawmaker added.
But Colmenares sought an investigation not only for Sunday’s airport mishap but also for a plane’s overshooting of the runway in Palawan and the “near collision” of Cebu Pacific and Zest Air aircraft.
“It must also be noted that other than the 2011 overshooting of runway in Palawan, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) also reported a near collision in 2012 involving Cebu-Pacific and Zest Air,” said the legislator.
“The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) should also publish the report not just of the Davao incident but also of these two other incidents so that the public is made aware of the cause of these mishaps and the sanctions imposed,” he said.
