PRESIDENT Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has declared June 13, Monday, a special non-working holiday throughout the country in observance of Independence Day.
The declaration was contained in Proclamation No. 856 signed by Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita.
Independence Day, which is celebrated June 12, falls on a Sunday.

June 13 a regular working day, says Palace
JUNE 13, a Monday, is a regular working day even if June 12, Philippine Independence Day, falls on a Sunday, Malacañang announced Tuesday.
Presidential Spokesman Ignacio Bunye said the Palace decision was reached following a request from employers not to declare June 13 a holiday.
"Yes, this is going to be a regular working day based on the employers' request," Bunye said on radio.
"There should be a specific proclamation and every proclamation should be consulted with various affected sectors, especially the employers," he said.
He noted that there had been many long weekends in the past, prompting the Palace to pass up on this one.
The last long weekend the public had was when Malacañang declared May 2, also a Monday, a special non-working holiday after May 1, Labor Day, fell on a Sunday.
The Palace accommodation of long weekends is part of its "holiday economics" scheme to boost domestic tourism.Last edited by Monseratto; June 9th, 2005 at 10:22 PM.

June 9th, 2005 10:37 PM #8well i'm not very surprised na nagbago sila ng isip (from a working to non-working holiday). this is not the first time na mag-flip-flop sila on such trivial matter. hirap talaga. they want to please everybody which is impossible!!!

June 10th, 2005 02:23 AM #14ang labo naman ng mga holiday nyo dyan. bakit hindi nila gawing consistent yan. it's so simple. if a holiday falls on a saturday, then gawin nilang friday walang pasok. and if it falls on a sunday, then monday naman walang pasok.
