this was the route a few years ago when the bridge in pozzorubio pangasinan was being repaired, but... don't take this road anymore since the bridge in pozzorubio is finished na (for some years now). use the main road from tarlac going to la union then take kennon or marcos hiway.

i drove thru that route a week ago. the roads are 100% cemented and road hazards at this time of year is the palay drying on the road in tarlac province.

the route is concepcion - lapaz - victoria - pura. about 40 kms total.

from pura junction you have three options:

    1) turn left and exit to mac arthur highway via ramos - paniqui

    2) turn right go to guimba. at the guimba junction, turn left and you will be on the road to rosales, pangasinan via the outskirts of cuyapo.

    3) you can go straight ahead. this route is shorter than #2 but i haven't passed here for sometime now. you will pass thru anao and the poblacion cuyapo on this route and end up in rosales too.

from rosales you have two options:

    1) go straight ahead and exit to mac arthur highway via carmen

    2) take a right turn at the poblacion (or just ask the townsfolk for the road to asingan). the towns are sta. maria - asingan - urdaneta - exit to mac arthur highway via binalonan. the directional signs to baguio abound on this route. the stretch sta. maria stretch is a good place to do "ferrari tune-ups". you can also catch a sight of the san roque dam while on the long bridge crossing the agno river. from binalonan, baguio is about 65 kilometers away via kennon road.

this backroads route is a good alternative to the main highway during the times when motorists take exodus-like trips to the north and end up steaming in their cars in mac arthur highway. travel time here is very predictable any time of the year and is also a good option for those averse to daytime traffic in the urdaneta - tarlac - mabalacat corridor. nightime drives in the backroads is not advised.

    hope this helps.

Hi guys. I'll be taking my family to Baguio this weekend and I'd like to ask kung ano yung best route. This is my first time to drive to Baguio, although I've been there as a passenger only so di ko masyado pinansin yung route.

    Gaano katagal using Marcos Highway?

BTW, I'll be using my APV so any advise especially from peeps who have gone to Baguio using their APVs (especially at full passenger load) would be most welcome.

5 hours is the average, depende sa traffic sa urdaneta he..he

    happy weekend, drive safe

Kennon would be my route if I were you. Considering that you are on full load, the inclines there are not so steep as Marcos Highway. Di pa naman tag-ulan so Kennon is still ok pero pag rainy season, this route is prone to landslides. BTW, have your ride checked (tires, brakes, etc.) and have it in tip top condition before you go. Check also kasi meron silang coding dun. I'm not sure if it is lifted at the moment.
Have a safe and happy vacation!

Just avoid a day trip when going to Baguio. It's just a waste of time and fuel because of traffic.

try to avoid urdaneta as much as possible. marami ng signs ng alternate route to skip urdaneta. pero kung aalis ka ng madaling araw, ok lang daanan ang urdaneta.

sir moipogi, we will be goin' there too! but sa sunday very early morning...hangang kailan ka dun?

ako, kabado ako sa kenon baka di umahon ung liteace ko(1st time ko ito isasabak dun) so i'll be taking the easier marcos highway going up, pero pagbaba sa kenon ako...

    hope kita tayo dun!

I'll be going there mga early morning saturday.

Thanks for all the advise peeps.

since its your first time going up baguio, i suggest you take marcos highway going up, then kennon road going down.

yes kaya na kung gabi/dawn. just imagine kung yun expressway extend hanggang La Union, exit ka na lang then go up Baguio na hehehe siguro ma-reduce to 3 hours or less. I hate driving sa two-lane road from Pampanga to Kennon.

Basta pagdating mo ng dulo ng NLEX, mejo u-turn yon, then right turn ka going to Mabalacat, then Bamban tapos Capas na.

Have a nice trip! Sarap sa Baguio!

parang it takes forever to go up or down marcos while yun kennon kaya ng 40-45 minutes lang. yun ibang taga La Union nga kakilala ko kaya daw 25 minutes kasi kabisado na daw nila ang zigzag kapabalik-balik

again, since it's your first time to drive to baguio, i strongly suggest that you take marcos highway on your way up. maraming blind corners sa kennon and makitid yung daan. at least sa marcos highway, yung mga sharp curves dun, sobrang lapad ng daan, there's more than enough room to maneuver kapag may emergency.
