    WBR,
The best route to Bali is not via Jakarta. It is by Singapore on Singapore Airlines (expect an evening arrival). You can also check out Jetstar (www.jetstar.com) and Air Asia (www.airasia.com) via Kuala Lumpur. Philippine Airlines now flies direct to Jakarta but I'd choose a stopover in Singapore anytime over Jakarta.

For the ticket prices, check the websites I mentioned. There are a few low cost carriers based out of Indonesia (Merpati, Adam Air, etc.) but the safety record is spotty (at least 3 crashes in the past 5 years for low cost carriers in Indonesia).

Regarding what to do, it's primarily the beaches and the culture/tradition. There are also a lot of sports available (land and water). While the beaches are nothing compared to Boracay or Bohol, the surf is retively good (northern part of Bali). The calmer beaches are south in the Kuta, Sanur and Nusa Dua area. There are a lot of major hotel and resort chains in Bali, as well as entry level accomodations.

For culture, there are a lot of Balinese dance Hindu "Ramayana" and "Mahabaratha") and kecak shows/theater plays. Bali is predominantly Hindu, unlike the rest of Indonesia which is Muslim, so the island is worlds apart from the others nearby.

Oh yeah, Bali is legendary for their spas.

Check out www.baliguide.com, among other websites dedicated to Bali.

Any tips in going to Bali, Indonesia...
